March in the Moxley Music Room
We are in the GROOVE
Concerts coming up, new successes in the classroom
Hello! As much as I'd like to say that spring has sprung, there a big rainstorm passing through Watertown for the next few days. March is a unique time of year because we are all so excited to escape the winter cold, but there are still a few more weeks to wait before the sun really starts to come out (see songs about rain below). Thankfully, the weather CANNOT stop these fabulous students! I'm excited to show you what we've been up to below!
Guitar class writes the blues
After learning 3 new chords, the blues becomes a very accessible genre for students to improvise and write in. After learning a few songs that use blues form (Give me one reason - Chapman, Rock and Roll - Zeppelin), students were asked to write their own blues. Check out some student lyrics below!
Music Tech looks at Hip-hop history
Hip-hop is everywhere these days! The aesthetics that define the folk genre are in our commercials, movies, on the news, etc. Because the work we do in tech class mostly adheres to that genre, I believe it's important to understand the foundations of that music. Check out this google jamboard, used by students to keep notes during their research!
Modern Music Ensembles In Concert
With the addition of an Advanced Rock Club and introductory rock class this semester, both groups are getting ready for performances. The advanced rock club is gearing up to bring the house down at Cunniff Elementary (featuring their second ever original song) and the intro class will be giving an in-school performance of Uptown Funk (Bruno Mars) and Tattoo Heart (Ariana Grande) next week! Check out the advanced rock band's original song "Thunder Road" (sorry Bruce) performed at Musicfest this month!
