Dear NCE Families,
Thank you for helping our Jaguars learn, grow, and thrive! Here are this weekβs updates.
Fostering Community
Last year, NCE volunteers earned $18,950 through the PTA Thrift Shop, supporting free student events and resources for students and staff. Thank you to everyone who volunteered! π
Our volunteer hours have declined, which means less funding for NCE. This yearβs challenge: ONE FAMILY = ONE SHIFT! If every family volunteers for just one shift this school year, together we can bring more funding back to our school. See more information in PTA News section below.
Encouraging Growth
NCEβs 2025-26 school report card score is 80βBβand our goal is an A at 85! We also exceeded expected academic growth last year with an EVAAS (Educator Value Added Assessment System) growth index of 5.52. The SASS Institute manages EVAAS data and you can find out more with this link: https://www.dpi.nc.gov/districts-schools/districts-schools-support/office-educator-preparation-licensure-performance/evaas
Fall STAR, results predict that 65% of students in grades 3β5 will meet end-of-year reading benchmarks and 69% will meet math benchmarks. Our goal is to maintain or increase classroom proficiency to 80% or above.
Overview of STAR Testing
- Purpose: Measures student achievement and growth to help teachers target instruction and identify who needs extra help.
- Format: Short, computer-adaptive tests that change question difficulty based on student answers.
- Frequency: Fall, Winter and Spring Benchmarks and monthly for progress monitoring
Cultivating Commitment
For the 2025-26 school year, families had to opt-out of retesting. For the 2026-27 school year, families must opt-in to retesting. End-of-grade (EOG) Retesting gives eligible students another opportunity to demonstrate their learning and contributes positively to our school report card results. Last year, retesting increased overall proficiency by 15 percentage points in reading, 11 in math, and 12 in science! Those gains represent students showing what they know.
Here is a link to read more about retesting: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LvctwCxap08ROjsDBuGG8B9EWbD6kb-BF_r6_VuyiOE/edit?usp=sharing.
Today at 4:30 p.m., families of students in grades 3β5 will receive an Infinite Campus notification allowing them to opt in to retesting. Follow this step-by-step guide to submit the Retesting Opt-In Form.
Behind every score is a child learning and growing. Thank you for partnering with us to help every Jaguar succeed!
Warmly,
Nikki Murchison
Principal, North Chatham Elementary

ROAR stands for:
R β Respect
O β Ownership
A β Acceptance
R β Responsibility
Students are saving their Jag Gems to spend at our upcoming Jag Gem Store, where they can choose from a variety of fun rewards!
We are looking for donations to help stock our Jag Gem Store! If you have new or gently used items, small prizes, school supplies, toys, games, or other kid-friendly treasures you would be willing to donate, we would greatly appreciate your support. We have also created an Amazon Wish List/Cart with items that would be especially helpful for our Jag Gem Store. You can use the link below to view the items and contribute if you would like.
We are also looking for volunteers! We would love to have parents and family members help us set up and run the Jag Store when it opens. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please reach out to the school for more information. Our first Jag Gem store experience will be on October 23rd.
Together, we can make the Jag Gem Store a fun way to celebrate and encourage positive behavior while helping our students ROAR with pride! ππ

πΎ THIS WEEK WITH NORTH CHATHAM PTA!
ποΈ Thrift Shop Updates!
Last year, our incredible NCE volunteers helped earn $18,950 for our school through the PTA Thrift Shop! These funds help PTA provide free student events and support our students and staff throughout the year. THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered! π
Unfortunately, NCEβs volunteer hours have steadily declined over the past several yearsβand fewer hours means less funding for our school.
πΎ THIS YEARβS CHALLENGE: ONE FAMILY = ONE SHIFT!
Weβre asking every NCE family to volunteer for just ONE Thrift Shop shift this school year. If every family gives just one shift, together we can increase our hours and bring even more funding back to NCE!
