Welcome to October Lieck Families!

Can you believe we are already in the month of October! Those first few weeks of school went fast!

Last week we had such a great turnout for our PTA Watch Dogs and PALS information/ game night. We are definitely excited to welcome the support and visible presence of our PTA Watch Dogs and PALS! Thank you to Mrs. Reyna and Mr. Pedraza for organizing such a wonderful event! If you are interested in PTA WatchDogs or PALS, do not hesitate to reach out to the school for more information. We are so blessed to have such great programs and parent involvement at Lieck Elementary!

We hope your child has adjusted well as we are wrapping up the 8th week of school. We have seen students learn the routines and procedures of the school and classroom and they are really starting to thrive!

This year we have seen the need to make safety improvements around the school such as increased safety drills, door checks and increased staff visibility. One procedure we continue to implement is check in procedures in the morning for parents. Fast passes are coming up for renewal. (Every grading period) You are welcome to visit our front desk to scan your ID so that the front office staff can work on your new FAST PASS for the second nine weeks. Don't want a FAST PASS? No worries, please just be sure to show your ID so that we can get you a visitor pass.

In terms of academics, some students are coming in slightly behind and some are coming in exactly where they need to be. If there was one thing that I can say to my parents, they are EXACTLY where they need to be and we will grow together.

Small Group Instruction:

Now that we are moving into week 8 and beyond your child is working at developing plans to accomplish their academic goals. One instructional strategy we use to target student learning is to have students work in small groups with the teacher. This type of instruction occurs in both reading and math. Research shows that students work better in small groups with targeted skills and concepts for concept attainment. It also allows students to develop their oral language and social skills when working with the teacher.

Parent Conferences: Now that MAP testing is done and report cards will be released in the coming weeks, we want to meet with all families to discuss your child's progress. Be on the lookout for an invitation from your child's teacher for a fall conference.

Thank you for all of your support and we are excited to see all the positive things that October brings!

Respectfully,

Ms. Jessica Garza

SB 12 Parent Consent Form

Dear Parent:

The 89th Texas Legislative Session passed Senate Bill 12, which requires all Texas public schools to obtain annual parental consent for routine physical and mental health services.

On September 10th, the district sent out an email to the parent listed as "guardian one" in eSchool. That parent received an email for each child that attends a northside school. Each email will contain a unique link for that specific student. To comply with this new law, we need you to indicate your consent preference in the unique link for your child. If you have other children enrolled in the district, you will receive a separate email for each of them. The subject line of the email is titled New parental consent requirements.

This consent form describes the routine physical and mental health services provided at the school. In the future, this consent process will be part of our annual data verification.

Thank you for your help as we implement this new requirement.

Please complete the consent form as soon as possible so that we have the most current information on file.

I'm also including a link to the district website for more information nisd.net/district/whole-child/parental-consent-forms

Respectfully,

Jessica Garza

School Advisory Team (SAT)

Dear Lieck Elementary Families,

We invite you to partner with us in shaping the future of our school by serving on our School Advisory Team (SAT).

What is the School Advisory Team?

Every campus in Northside ISD has a School Advisory Team. The SAT’s primary role is to improve student learning. Members work together to review and provide input on important areas such as the Campus Improvement Plan, campus budget, professional learning plan, and other priorities identified by the principal and team members.

Who serves on the SAT?

The SAT is a collaboration of staff, parents, community members, and business representatives. Each campus must attempt to include:

  • At least four staff members

  • At least four parents

  • At least one community member

  • At least one business representative

We are currently recruiting parents to join our team. Your perspective and voice are essential to ensure that our work reflects the needs of our students and families.

When does the SAT meet?

The SAT meets 3–4 times per year at times convenient for participants. This year’s scheduled meetings are:

  • September 30

  • January 13

  • May 19

Agendas are prepared by the principal and shared in advance. Members also have the opportunity to bring forward additional items for discussion.

How to Get Involved:

If you are interested in serving as a parent member of the School Advisory Team, please contact Ms. Garza @ Jess.Garza@nisd.net.

Your participation makes a difference! Together, we can ensure that Lieck Elementary continues to provide the best opportunities for our students.

With appreciation,

Jessica Garza
Principal

Udpate Your Child's Immunizations

Texas law requires all public school children to have current immunizations to attend class. Northside ISD encourages parents to have their children immunized before the first day of school.

For more information please visit https://www.nisd.net/schools/health/vaccinations

A Word from the Nurse

The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.

Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.

Student Dress Code

The NISD Board of Trustees approved revisions to the District’s dress code policies for the 2025-2026 school year. The new policy allows for the wearing of shorts by all students (Pre-K -12) as long as the shorts are mid-thigh length or longer. As with the previous policy, the final determination of acceptable dress and grooming rests with the campus principal or his/her designee. Guidelines for the new dress and grooming policy are available in the linked file.

Buses and Boundaries

Northside ISD assigns students to schools according to the street address where the student resides. Our Boundaries and Buses Information System will provide you with the name and address of the schools serving your area. Just enter the student’s street number and street name to search for school assignment, bus route information, and any future Board adopted boundary changes.

For general boundary information, attendance area maps for each elementary, middle & high schools are listed on the campus sites.
