ROSTERING OF STUDENTS FOR 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

Toward the end of this school year, the staff at Altamont Creek will begin planning for our next school year. Part of our planning process is rostering students. We are committed to building balanced classrooms. Research indicates achievement is higher in classrooms with healthy dynamics; therefore, we week to build the best possible dynamics in EVERY classroom. Classes are balanced for number of students, gender, academic levels, personality types, student behaviors, and special needs. This is a challenging task. As part of the process, the staff must make recommendations for student placement that best meet the needs of all our students.

Although teachers' styles vary, each grade level spends significant time collaborating to make sure the same grade level standards are applied and, from class to class, each student receives a comparable education. Teachers, administrators, and specialists will follow a systematic process to ensure each child is placed in an appropriate and positive learning environment.

Parents often have a preferred teacher and teachers have families with whom they have built relationships with over the years. However, allowing parent requests severely hampers our staff's ability to create balanced classed. As a result, we have a NO TEACHER REQUEST policy. If you feel your child has a specific need you feel I need to be aware of, please complete the form (link below). Please DO NOT INCLUDE TEACHER NAME(S), as those will not be considered. Forms will be accepted until Friday, April 11th.

Reminder: Birthday Celebrations

FOR INDIVIDUAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:

Here at Altamont, WE ARE NOT ALLOWING ANY FOOD ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS.

Families may bring in non-food items to celebrate a birthday at school. Suggestions might be fun pencils, erasers, small trinkets, or stickers. Birthday goodie bags, without food, can be distributed to all classmates at the end of the school day.

FOR CLASS PARTIES/HOLIDAYS ETC.:

Food items that are brought in must follow the following Ed Code nutritional guidelines for schools. They will be auditing schools throughout the year.

  • This applies to foods and beverages donated, offered, or provided to students on campus upon arrival, during the school day, or upon dismissal for rewards or celebrations. Our district encourages the use of non-food/beverage items for rewards and celebrations. If food/beverage items are provided, they must adhere to the following guidelines.

    • Food or beverage items donated, offered or provided to a school, classroom or individual(s) must be commercially packaged.
    • A list of ingredients must either be printed on each individual item or on the larger package they came in, which must accompany the items.
    • No homemade items.
    • Items cannot have added caffeine.
    • Items cannot contain nuts, as we are a nut-free district.
    • Items align with our district’s healthy snack standards and recommendations.

  • In addition to those stated above, food/snacks brought onto our elementary campuses must follow these guidelines:

    • Snacks served do not exceed 200 calories per packaged item.
    • Schools shall limit celebrations that involve food during the school day to no more than one celebration per class per month.
    • Hosting celebrations after lunch is encouraged.
