Dress Code Reminders Dress Code Reminders

Dear Mayfair Students and Families,

As the weather begins to warm up, we want to remind everyone of the importance of adhering to our school dress code to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all. Clothing must cover undergarments at all times, and students should avoid wearing sheer, low-cut, or overly revealing attire, including excessive midriff exposure. For safety, appropriate and protective footwear is required at all times. Additionally, clothing and accessories should not disrupt the educational environment, and items such as hats, hoods, and beanies must be removed indoors. We appreciate your partnership in helping maintain a positive and focused school community by ensuring all students follow these guidelines each day.

Warm Weather Notice Warm Weather Notice

As temperatures begin to rise, we want to remind all Mayfair students to stay hydrated throughout the day by bringing and regularly drinking water. Additionally, students who qualified for the Mayfair Backyard BBQ on Friday, March 20 during an early lunch are encouraged to come prepared for the warm weather by wearing sunscreen, bringing water, and possibly wearing a hat. Students qualified for this event by earning a 2.5 GPA or higher for the 3rd quarter, having no more than 5 period tardies during the month of March, and maintaining a record free of assertive discipline. We look forward to celebrating your hard work and responsibility!

3rd Quarter Report Cards 3rd Quarter Report Cards

3rd quarter report cards are now available! We encourage all Mayfair students and families to log in to the parent/student portal to review academic progress, celebrate successes, and identify any areas for growth as we head into the final stretch of the school year. Staying informed is key to finishing strong—please take a moment to check your report card today and connect with teachers if you have any questions or need support.

Happy New Year! Happy New Year!

Yes, you did read that correctly. It's not a typo. Happy New Year!

As the editor of these newsletters, I enjoy adding in additional culturally-relevant information so that we can celebrate the great diversity that exists at Mayfair Middle/High School, whether it be celebrating particular cultural holidays (Day of the Dead, Lunar New Year, etc...) or celebratory months (Black History Month, Women's History Month, etc...).

As a person of mixed heritage (both Persian and Mexican), for my family, we celebrate "Nowruz," also known as Persian New Year. This year, Nowruz will occur at 7:46am on Friday, March 20th in Los Angeles, which is the exact time of the Spring Equinox, and therefore people that celebrate this event mark the first day of Spring as the new year. Nowruz itself is actually celebrated by over 300 million people, primarily in areas of the Balkans, Black Sea Basin, Central Asia, and parts of the Middle East. The celebration has roots in the ancient religion of Zoroastrianism, which is a minority religion that is still practiced in areas around Iran (which in ancient times was known as Persia). However, Nowruz is not viewed by the majority of celebrants as a religious holiday, and instead is more of a cultural holiday.

If interested, please click here for a 31-minute lecture by me that was conducted back in 2021 during the Pandemic that talks about Persian culture and heritage. For more information about Nowruz, please click here to visit the UN Website. Or, click here to for a brief 5-minute video from YouTube that explains Nowruz celebrations.

I hope that the new year for all of you brings about prosperity and happiness.

Thank you for supporting our student-athletes! To ensure a positive and respectful environment at all athletic events, we ask that all spectators follow our Spectator Code of Conduct. Please positively support all athletes, respect officials, coaches, and players, and demonstrate good sportsmanship and self-control. We encourage everyone to keep language clean and family-friendly, show school spirit without noisemakers or music, and acknowledge the hard work of both teams. Let’s focus on encouragement rather than criticism. Spectators who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the event. World Down Syndrome Day World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day is Saturday, March 21st. We will bring awareness to our campus on Friday, March 20th.

Down Syndrome is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. This extra chromosome can cause some differences in how a person looks, learns, and grows. Individuals who have Down Syndrome may need extra support to learn specific skills. Down Syndrome is different for each individual.

The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. The official colors for Down Syndrome are blue and yellow. Globally, there is a push to wear bright colored socks to bring Down Syndrome awareness to communities.

Please show your support by wearing blue and yellow or bright colored socks on Friday, March 20th.

Attendance Warning!! Attendance Warning!!

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Listen up, Monsoons: if you’re planning on hitting the dance floor for Prom on May 2nd, you need to ensure your attendance is as sharp as your outfit. Starting March 16, 2026, for the 4th quarter, any tardies, cuts, or unexcused absences will directly block you from purchasing a ticket until they are cleared. Accumulating three periods of missed time will land you in Lunch Detention, but if you hit three full days of unexcused absences or nine total tardies/cuts, you’ll be required to serve Saturday School on either April 18 or 25. Don't let a few extra minutes of sleep or a skipped period ruin your night; head to Admin 300 now to check your status and settle your hours before tickets go on sale!

State Testing! State Testing!

Monsoons! Get ready for CAASPP State Testing! Please review the following information.
The students that are testing for CAASPP are those in grades 7, 8, and 11.

CAST Science exams for 8th and 11th grade studens will take place during the student's normal class schedule of 8th grade science or 11th grade US History. This will take place during the week of March 30th.

However, our school will be on a special bell schedule after Spring Break, as students in grades 7, 8, and 11 complete 4 exams (2 English, 2 Math). Testing will take place for 4 days from 8:30am-10:30am. This takes place from April 14 - 17, 2026.

For everyone else, please see the Testing Bell Schedule. If you are NOT testing, we recommend coming to school after 10:30am, but before 10:45am.

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions regarding your concerns that you may have about those wanting to be on campus but are not testing, transportation concerns, the cell phone and smart watch policy, and more!

You can click the file below to watch an 11 minute video that explains the Testing Schedule.

Parents and students of grades 7 and 9 at Mayfair Middle/High School are encouraged to be aware of the upcoming California Physical Fitness Test (FitnessGram), which will take place between February 1 and May 31. This state-required assessment helps students understand their overall physical fitness while promoting lifelong healthy habits. During the test, students will participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities that measure aerobic capacity, strength, endurance, and flexibility. The results are used to support student wellness and to help the school evaluate its physical education program. Please note that, as a state-mandated assessment, there is no opt-out for the Physical Fitness Test, and all eligible students are expected to participate. Families are encouraged to support students by reminding them to try their best and maintain a positive attitude throughout the testing period.

Reminders Reminders

Listed below are just a few important reminders (PLEASE READ):

  1. Mayfair Middle/High School does not permit any drop-offs or deliveries of food or other items. Please ensure that your student is prepared for the day when coming to school in the morning with their lunch, supplies, money, etc.
  2. Dress Code. For the 2025-2026 school year, we are trying to prepare our students for college and career ready with a dress code. Students will not be allowed to wear any inappropriate clothing which includes the following: No sheer, low cut, revealing blouses, bare midriff, or braless outfits, bathing suits, beach attire, tight or revealing, or strapless garments. Please be sure that your student follows the dress code and wears appropriate clothing and accessories. Also, students may not bring blankets to campus. Click here to access Mayfair's Dress Code Policy.
  3. No returning back to campus. If a student has an early release (7th or 8th period), once the student leaves campus, they may not return to campus during school hours. Parents - please ensure that your students are going home early if they have the early release. Note: Students who have a "home" period, must leave campus by the end of lunch, and are not allowed to remain unsupervised. Please review your students schedule so that you are aware when they will be leaving campus early (prior to 3:35).

School Policies School Policies

Bikes/skateboards/ scooters

Students will not be allowed to have bikes, scooters or skateboards on campus. There are designated lock areas on the north and south ends of campus for students to securely store them during the school day. Riding and even walking them through campus presents a safety concern. Students are expected to pick up their belongings at the designated areas, and exit campus. Students are also required to walk their Bike, scooter or skateboard until they are completely off campus, which includes walkways and parking lots. Our goal is to insure safety for all students, we appreciate your support in upholding these expectations at home.

For the safety of all students and staff, riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards on campus is not permitted. Once students reach the school curb, they must walk their bikes and skateboards at all times. Motorbikes are not allowed on campus. All bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be properly locked to a designated bike rack only and should not be attached to gates or left in front of the school. Items left or locked outside of campus have been stolen in the past, and the school is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Safety is a shared responsibility, both on and around campus. Students are expected to be cautious when crossing streets, follow all traffic and crossing rules, and use designated crosswalks. We have had students hit by cars this year, which underscores how important it is to stay alert and make safe choices when arriving to and leaving school. Taking these precautions helps protect not only individual students, but our entire school community.

Students must complete their detention to be removed from the no-go Minga list and regain the ability to attend special school events, which are considered privileges. The app enables staff to create hall passes, reward students for doing well and helping others, and the digital ID card will help students have an easier time entering or leaving campus. The digital ID has a "live" interface, with a running digital clock and a moving background, thus preventing students from using a screenshot [Screenshots of ID are not permitted]. Students will utilize their school email (via Google) to log in. The app is safe to use, uses very little data, and doesn't require access to any of the information stored on your phone. If your child does not have a smartphone, don't worry - they will receive a printed ID card as well. Click here to access a quick document that shows you how to log into your school's Minga account.
