Principle Points Principle Points

As we wrap up another memorable school year at Lonedell, I want to take a moment to reflect on just how proud we are of our students. This year brought so many moments of learning, laughter, and growth—from the first-day jitters to end-of-year celebrations, field trips, performances, and everything in between.

Watching our students overcome challenges, support one another, and strive to do their best has been the greatest joy of all. They’ve shown resilience, curiosity, and kindness throughout the year, and it’s clear that each one is walking away a little stronger, a little wiser, and a whole lot braver.

To our younger Bobcats—keep asking questions, keep helping others, and keep believing in yourself. To our 8th graders—you’ve left your mark, and we’ll miss your leadership and energy in the halls. We’re excited to see all that you accomplish in your next chapter. And no matter where life takes you, remember: once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat.

Summer is a time for rest, adventure, and making memories. Read a great book, explore the outdoors, laugh often, and enjoy time with family and friends. You’ve earned it.

We can’t wait to see what next year brings—but for now, enjoy a safe and joyful summer break!

Healthy Habits Healthy Habits

Building strong, healthy routines at home helps students thrive at school and beyond. Here are a few simple habits that make a big impact:

  • Start the day with a good breakfast
  • Encourage reading and limit screen time
  • Get outside and stay active
  • Practice good hygiene, including brushing teeth
  • Enjoy family meals and stick to a routine
  • Help kids build friendships and confidence

Positive environments and daily habits shape lifelong success—thank you for supporting your children in and out of the classroom!

Advice From Nurse Sandy Advice From Nurse Sandy

Sunscreen vs. Sunblock

Sunscreen is the more commonly used type of sun protection. It filters or screens the sun's UV rays. It keeps most rays out but lets some in. It may also be called a chemical sunscreen.

Sunblock, on the other hand, blocks the sun's rays by sitting on top of the skin and reflecting them away. It may be called a physical sunscreen.

Choosing Between Sunscreen vs. Sunblock

Sunscreen and sunblock are both excellent forms of sun protection. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) doesn't advise using one over the other. The AAD does recommend that you choose one that offers:

  • Broad-spectrum coverage (protects against UVA and UVB rays)

  • SPF 30 or higher

  • Water resistance

Broad spectrum sunblocks and sunscreens will prevent tanning and premature aging as well as sunburn.

Remember to apply sun protection to the tops of the ears, the scalp, and the tops of your hands. See your dermatologist regularly for check-ups and always wear sunscreen, even on overcast days.

Here' s hoping all of you have a happy and safe summer!

Parents As Teachers Parents As Teachers

Maintaining a daily routine during summer school helps students stay on track and prevent the "summer slide." Simple habits like consistent bedtimes, regular reading, and staying engaged in learning activities make a big difference. A little structure goes a long way in keeping those skills sharp all summer long!
