Hawk Talk

Message from Mr. Carlson
Well it looks like I am going to be suiting up to be the Rice Lake Hawk soon and students will have a school wide pajama day this coming Monday.
The kids are doing a fantastic job with our PTO fall Fundraiser! We are so close to the half-way mark of our 20-thousand dollar goal.
Thank you to all of the students and families for your hard work.
Make sure to take a look below and mark your calendars for our upcoming events. Our Book Fair will be here before you know it and don't miss our Growing Up Digital presentation next week.
Have a great weekend! Go Hawk!
Mr. Carlson
Mobile Device Policy
It is the school’s expectation that cell phones remain in the student’s backpack throughout the day, including while on the bus.
If your student wears a smart watch and it becomes a distraction to his/her learning or the learning of others, or if it impacts the security of students, a parent/guardian will be notified. Devices like smart watches should not be used as a method of communication during the school day. If a student is sick or needs to contact a parent, they must go through the office to do so. As with anything of value, the school is not liable for theft or damage.
We appreciate your help in partnering with us to make Rice Lake a great learning community.
If you have any questions regarding the policy, please reach out to Mr. Carlson.

Hawks Soar Celebration - Friday, Oct. 2nd!
On Friday, October 2 all RLE students will participate in our Hawks Soar Celebration during school hours. Families are welcome to celebrate their students and our fundraiser by attending the fun run! Your student's teacher will communicate information regarding the fun run schedule.
Our celebration is always a huge hit and a nice way to cap off the hard work; however, it takes many hands to help our event run smoothly. See the link below for volunteer opportunities and reach out to the RLPTO with any questions.

Thank You! Welcome Back Bingo a Huge Success!
Thank you to the nearly 300 students plus family members who attended the
2026 Welcome Back Bingo last Friday night.
It was a huge success! Congratulations to all our winners who took home prizes donated by multiple local businesses! It was also an opportunity to support the Power Pack program, a completely volunteer run program that supports students at Rice Lake and other Centennial schools. You all filled 4 medium packing boxes and many bags with food,
and you donated almost $400 in funds. Your generosity is appreciated.
The PTO would also like to thank all the volunteers who made the night a success as well as everyone who helped clean up afterwards. Rice Lake is an amazing community! Way to go, Hawks!

District News
Why is Centennial bringing these questions forward now?
Centennial has carefully managed resources and made more than $5 million in budget adjustments over three years. Existing resources, however, cannot fully address both ongoing operating needs and identified long-term facility needs.
Watch your mailbox for Centennial's Annual Report. Centennial's Annual Report will begin arriving in homes this week. In addition to celebrating student learning, activities and community connections from the past year, the report explains the identified needs behind the November referendum.
Watch your mailbox or read the report online at isd12.org/news
Learn more about the referendum at isd12.org/centennial-forward
Check out the videos that provide factual information about the two referendum questions and the planning behind the School Board’s decision to place the operating levy and facilities bond questions on the November 2026 ballot.
- Great Teachers Matter
Great schools begin with great teachers. See how Question 1 would help Centennial maintain competitive staffing levels, strong classroom instruction, and the high-quality educational experience families value. - Safe & Secure Schools
Students learn best when they feel safe, secure and supported. See how the proposed facilities improvements would strengthen school security, improve accessibility and support safer, more welcoming environments for students, staff and visitors.
See our schools. Learn about identified needs. Ask questions.
Join us for a walking tour of Centennial High School and Centennial Elementary to learn more about the two referendum questions and see the areas identified through the Centennial Forward planning process.
- Tuesday, September 22 at 6 p.m.
- Thursday, October 8 at 6 p.m.
Location: Meet in the Learning Commons at Centennial High School (4757 North Road, Circle Pines)
During the tour, community members will have an opportunity to learn more about:
- The two referendum questions on the November 2026 ballot
- How proposed improvements address identified district needs
- How school spaces and facilities support students, staff, and the community
School Board Listening Session: September 21
In ongoing efforts to gather feedback from stakeholders, the School Board is hosting quarterly Listening Sessions for the public. The first Listening Session of the 2026-2027 school year will be held on September 21, 5:30 p.m. The sessions provide the opportunity for community members, staff, parents, and students to meet informally with board representatives and the superintendent to discuss topics in the schools.
Listening Sessions increase communication and engagement work that reflects the district’s commitment to excellence. Additional sessions to seek input/perspective on topics established by the Board would be scheduled as a special or additional Board Listening Session. For more information on school board meetings, see the Centennial website.
Immunization Information
Minnesota law requires children enrolled in childcare, early childhood education, or school to be immunized against certain diseases, unless the child is medically or non-medically exempt. If proper documentation is not provided, students will be unable to attend school after October 30, 2026. Contact your student’s school with questions.
Annual review and update of student information due September 18
Centennial uses an online method in Campus Portal for families to update annual information for students such as annual notifications, agreements, emergency contact information, communication preferences, etc. This process eliminates the many beginning-of-the-year paper documents that would typically be collected during the first few weeks of school.
Please note: The annual data review is required to be completed before other areas of parent portal are available.
Login to Campus Portal, review, and update the data on file for you as parent/guardians as well as your student/s by September 18, 2026. Below are some links to help you log in to your Parent Portal account and get started.
