As August comes to a close, it’s time to welcome the new educators who have recently joined AUSD. On behalf of ATA, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our community, and I look forward to connecting with all of you in the coming weeks.

Rep Council has approved a brand-new round of ATA t-shirts—FREE for all dues-paying members! The updated design is a fresh take on our classic look and proudly features this powerful message on the back:

“Empowering educators to provide a quality public education for all students.”

These shirts are perfect for ATA Blue Tuesdays, rallies, and any time you want to show your ATA pride. When we wear blue together, we send a clear message: we stand united.

Early next week, our secretary Gabriela will email you a quick form to select your size. Please fill it out promptly so we can ensure a proper fit and finalize orders.

As an ATA member, it’s essential to understand your rights if you are ever questioned about an incident involving a student or your work. Weingarten Rights are your safeguard—they ensure you cannot be forced into a coercive investigatory interview and give you the right to have a union representative present.

If you are called to such a meeting and reasonably believe discipline could result, pause and request a union representative before saying anything. Your representative serves as a witness and advisor, helping protect your interests every step of the way.

Never feel pressured to explain or defend yourself before consulting the ATA. And if law enforcement is involved, contact the ATA office immediately and wait to speak with them until you’ve connected with union leadership.

Your rights exist to protect you—use them. Reach out to ATA whenever you need support.

We’re excited to announce that phase two of the ATA Building renovations is now complete! The bottom floor has been fully refreshed with new lighting, flooring, baseboards, ceiling tiles, cabinets, countertops, and paint.

The updated space offers a modern and welcoming environment for members to meet, collaborate, and continue the important work of our union. We can’t wait for you to see it—check out a few snapshots of the newly renovated space below!
