Laney AIGUpdateWeek of August 24, 2026

Mauk's Schedule this Week

Laney: Monday, Tuesday, & Friday

NHHS: Wednesday & Thursday

Welcome (back) to Laney High School! The AIG newsletter will be available Monday morning each week. It will include important school updates, AIG events, and FLEX opportunities, as well as extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer opportunities. I tried to limit information this week to avoid overwhelming everyone at the beginning of the year. Only immediate opportunities are shared this week. Let me know how I can help you settle in!

Communication Changes

AIG students will be enrolled in an AIG Canvas site this year that will house AIG newsletters, updates, and opportunities. Newsletters will only be directly emailed to family members to try and cut down on the quantity of email students receive. If you receive an email from me, that means I am specifically reaching out to you personally about something important.

Fall 2026 Schedule Change Request Form

In order to request a schedule change for Fall 2026, students must fill out the online request form.

***Students can only fill out the form when logged into their NHCS student email account. The form will not accept responses from outside email accounts. If a student cannot access their NHCS student email account, they need to call the Student Help Desk at 910-254-4288 for assistance.***

You may only request a schedule change if:

  • You have a hole in your schedule (example - no 2nd period)
  • You do not have the prerequisite for a class on your schedule
  • You have already successfully completed a class on your schedule
  • You are a Senior and there is a course missing that is needed for graduation

The schedule change request form will be open from through Friday, August 28. Please be patient as our counselors respond to requests around required staff meetings and training.

AUGUST 25 (tomorrow!) Teen Court Volunteer Training from 5pm-6pm

Teen Court is a diversion program for low level, juvenile offenders to help them recognize the harm they caused, the impact of their choices and opportunities to repair the harm, without entering the juvenile justice system.

Teen Court hearings operate as mock court sessions run by teen volunteers who are trained as attorneys, jurors, bailiffs, and clerks and advised by actual legal attorneys. Teens who participate in Teen Court plead responsible if they decide to accept their diversion contract. They then receive sanctions that aim to repair harm that they may have caused, encourage self-discipline and restore the offender back into their community. Participants have 90 days to complete their sanctions. Upon completion of the Teen Court program, the teen avoids getting a charge on their record.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING: August 25, 2026

TIME: 5pm – 6pm

LOCATION: CIS Headquarters (1209 Market Street, Wilmington)
