Thank You, WWES Families!

What a wonderful evening we had at Meet the Teacher/Parent Information Night! Thank you to everyone who came out to meet teachers, learn more about the year ahead, and connect with our Washington Woods community. We had a great turnout, and we truly appreciate the partnership you share with us. When families and school work together, our students benefit—and we are grateful to have such supportive families!

Fun Run Is Underway!

The Fun Run has officially kicked off, and we are excited for all the fun leading up to the big day on September 18! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the funds raised make a tremendous difference for our students and school.

We appreciate all of the ways our families support Washington Woods and help make this event such a success! Be sure to check out the information from PTO below for all the details.

Clubs & Dismissal Plans

As our clubs and enrichment opportunities begin over the next couple of months, please remember that club participation is an exception to your child's regular dismissal plan.

If your child is registered for and attending a club such as Helping Hands, Choir, an academic team, or a PTO enrichment club, you will need to enter the appropriate exception in School Dismissal Manager so we know your child should go to their club instead of following their normal dismissal plan. Please only enter a club as an exception if your child is officially signed up for that club.

More information about these opportunities will be shared as clubs get closer. Thank you for helping us make sure every student gets where they need to go safely!

A Quick Reminder About Late Arrivals

If your child arrives at school after the school day has started, please remember that an adult must walk them into the office rather than having them enter the building on their own.

When you arrive, you will be asked to sign your child in and provide the reason for their late arrival. This helps us maintain accurate attendance records and, most importantly, ensures we know where every student is throughout the school day.

Thank you for helping us keep our arrival procedures safe and consistent!

As we head into another great week at Washington Woods, thank you for continuing to partner with us. We are so excited about all that is ahead this school year and the opportunities we have to learn, grow, and build our community together!

Mrs. Libby Baud

Principal, Washington Woods Elementary

Safety Snippet Safety Snippet

A Quick Safety Update

Keeping our students and staff safe is always a top priority! As part of our regular safety routines, we’ll be practicing our first intruder ALICE of the school year. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. In the case of a Lockdown drill, students have 3 jobs. Stop, Look, and Listen. Then the adult in the room will use the information they have to give students directions of what to do next.

We’ll talk with students beforehand and make sure the drill is handled in a calm, age-appropriate way. The goal is simply to help our students and staff know what to do and feel prepared.

Just a reminder: this is only a drill—there is no threat to our school.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to practice, prepare, and keep our school community safe!

If you have any questions, let me know,

Mrs. Agee

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

New Attendance Procedure

Please use our new School Dismissal Manager app to enter absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals. When you use the SDM app to enter your absence, please include the reason. Once the absence is entered in the SDM app, you will not need to email or call the attendance line.

Traveling for a family event?

If your child will be out for an elective absence—such as a vacation or sports event—those absences are considered Excused if:

  • Your child has fewer than 7 total absences, and

  • You notify our office at least 2 days in advance.

If you have any questions about your child’s attendance, please reach out to Becky Garver by email at garverr@wws.k12.in.us.

Monitoring Attendance

Please refer to the Elementary School Handbook on the District Webpage for details of attendance policies.

We will be monitoring attendance this year. Students who have missed five, nine, and/or fifteen total days or more during the school term will be informed in writing. As this is cumulative throughout the year and not within one single grading period, this may not require further action unless otherwise indicated.

We want to partner proactively with families this year to assure our students are at school as much as possible!

Arrival, Dismissal & Parking Lot Reminders Arrival, Dismissal & Parking Lot Reminders

Parent drop off and parent pick up are going well! Thank you for your support in following the traffic flow, and dropping kids off at the correct doors. If you arrive after the doors or gate have closed, please walk your child into the office.

If you line up early for the parent line in the morning or afternoon, please be sure to leave an opening for the first part of the parking lot so cars can still get in and out of our lot while you are waiting.

To make this happen, they rely heavily on the support and generosity of our community. Want to pitch in? Go to https://opendoorswestfield.org/ to find out how. Putting together everyone's "little bit" makes a BIG difference!

ATTENTION 4TH AND 5TH GRADERS!

After an incredible inaugural season, Rhythm Rocks! is returning this fall for another exciting year of music-making!

Last year, fourth and fifth graders from across Westfield came together to learn, laugh, make new friends, and perform on the stage at the Westfield High School Holiday Festival. From their very first rehearsal to their final standing ovation, our students discovered the joy of creating something bigger than themselves.

Now it's your turn!

If your child loves music, enjoys a challenge, and wants to experience playing xylophones, glockenspiels, drums, and other percussion instruments in a fun and engaging ensemble, Rhythm Rocks! is the place to be.

Open to all Westfield 4th and 5th graders.

No auditions.

Perform at the Westfield High School Holiday Festival.
Enrollment is limited to 50 students to ensure every musician has an instrument and an active role in the ensemble.

Registration is open now through September 11! We can't wait to welcome our newest musicians! Click here to learn more.
