Electronic Device Policy

Our electronic device policy remains largely unchanged in elementary schools. However, we do want to send this both to provide additional information and as a reminder so you can prepare appropriately for the school year.

  • Senate Bill 178 - Devices in Public Schools went into effect July 1, 2025 and prohibits students from using cellphones, smartwatches, or emerging technologies during classroom hours. While establishing a default, the law allows local education agencies (school districts) to create exemptions and craft their own policies.

  • The Davis School District Board of Education adopted a policy that prohibits electronic devices in elementary school throughout the entire school day. In secondary schools, students will be permitted to access them during passing periods and lunch.

  • While Mountain View has always had a no cellphone policy, the addition of smartwatches is new. In the past, watches could be worn if they were used strictly to tell time, but they will now be required to be stored in backpacks during the school day just like cellphones.

  • The following steps will be taken to help support students who access electronic devices during school hours:
    1. First occurrence - the device will be taken away by the teacher and returned to the student at the end of the day. Parents will be notified.
    2. Second occurrence - the device will be taken away and turned in to the office. An administrator will meet with the student and return the device to the student at the end of the day. Parents will be notified.
    3. Third and subsequent occurrences - the device will be taken away and turned in to the office. A parent will be required to pick up the device in the office.

Students who have a device listed as an accommodation on a special education or health plan (such as diabetics who use a phone to monitor glucose levels) are exempt from this policy as it pertains to their accommodation.

My Ride K12 Busing App

The Davis School District Transportation Department is excited to introduce a new tool to help families stay informed about school bus schedules and arrivals. The My Ride K-12 website and mobile app from Tyler Technologies give families easy access to their student’s bus route, stop location, and pickup/drop-off times. You can also receive real-time notifications when the bus is approaching your stop.

Bus routes are currently being finalized and will be available in the app by August 8. At that time, student transportation data will appear for those eligible.

Families can also use the app to check bus eligibility by searching for their school within the app.

Please note:

  • Each student can be linked to one primary account holder.
  • That account holder may share access with other family members if desired.

To get started, use the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to sign up and connect your student.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the DSD Transportation Department at 801-402-7500 for assistance.

Class Assignments

Class assignments are now available in myDSD.

We have made every effort to ensure classes are built in a way that support the academic and social needs of our students. This involves a lengthy process that includes feedback from parents, teachers, behavior coaches, special education, and administration.

Class change requests can no longer be accepted as it would require moving additional students in other classes. Our teachers are all amazing and work hard to support every student's needs. Please support them and help get your student excited about their upcoming year!
