Student Expectations
Let's revisit a few things that have gotten loose over the past few weeks:
Morning Wanderers
Before the 7:54 a.m. bell, you may go to your locker, breakfast, and your assigned first-hour classroom. Once you get where you need to be, stay there. Don’t wander or move back and forth through the hallways.
You should not be in another teacher’s classroom unless you’re there for tutoring or a sponsored meeting.
Breakfast Boundaries
HS students must finish breakfast by 8:00 a.m. After that, throw away any remaining food and any drinks without screw-on or spill-proof lids.
Bathroom Buddies
Use the restroom between classes whenever possible. If you need to leave class, ask permission and leave your phone with your teacher. Only one student may be out of the classroom at a time, so wait until that student returns before asking to leave.
If you need to see the nurse, your teacher must call first.
Mixed Company
JH and HS students need to stay in their respective areas before school, including at breakfast. Please don’t gather together in the hallways or visit each other’s classrooms.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our school day running smoothly. We expect each of you to follow these expectations and respond respectfully when staff redirect you.
Let’s make each day a good one!

Parent/Teacher Conferences
We will hold parent/teacher conferences on Thursday, October 29 from 1:00-6:00 pm in the HS Gym. PK-5 teachers will schedule specific times for you to meet with them. All other teachers may be visited at any time throughout the afternoon/evening.
We look forward to visiting with you and sharing all of the great things your student has accomplished so far this year!
A Friendly Reminder...
Just a friendly reminder that squishies, fidgets, toys, stuffed animals, and other non-school-related items should be left at home.
While we understand that these items can be fun, they can become distractions and interfere with learning, classroom activities, and the safety of our school environment.
Students should only bring items to school that are needed for learning or specifically requested by a teacher.
Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms focused, safe, and ready to learn! 💜💛

You’ll now have the convenience of paying by card or mobile payment at the gate and concessions. And don’t worry—cash is still an option!
We’re excited to try out these new options and make things a little more convenient for our fans and families. Student Pick Up & Drop Off Procedures
The circle drive is designated for bus pick up and drop off only. Please plan to drop off on the east side of Elm Street (Elementary building) or Morgan Street ( ECC building or HS breezeway).
Students that walk home or picked up by car will be dismissed at the end of the school day from the NORTH and EAST doors of the elementary, the ECC door, and from the HS breezeway.
Please remember that for the safety and organization of our school, parents are not allowed to enter the classroom/building when dropping off or picking up students. We ask that you to drop your students off at the door and staff members will assist students from there.
Please let anyone else that may be dropping off or picking up your student know what the procedure is.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

What can I have to drink during the school day?
Students are allowed to have water in a sealed cup throughout the day. Flavor packets are acceptable.
Coffee, hot chocolate, soda, energy drinks, etc. are not allowed. If you would like to bring one of these beverages for your lunch, that would be fine, however you should not be seen in the hallways or classrooms with them.
26-27 Attendance Policy
ATTENDANCE MEASURES
The following measures may be utilized throughout the school year: reminder letters/emails, hotline call(s) may be placed, outside agencies (law enforcement, juvenile office) may be contacted.
Students whose cumulative attendance falls between 80-90% as of May 1st will be required to attend one week of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.
Students whose cumulative attendance falls below 80% as of May 1st will be required to attend two weeks of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.
ATTENDANCE POLICY GRADES 6-12
The Slater Board of Education, school administration, and teachers believe that the responsibility for students attending school lies jointly with the student, the parents, and the school. The following attendance policy is designed to maximize student attendance while allowing for the necessary absences from school throughout the year. Parents are requested to telephone the school at 660-529-2278 by 8:30 a.m. when their child will be absent from school. If no call is received by 8:30 a.m., the office secretary will attempt to make contact with parents. Doctor's notes may be submitted for documentation purposes but do not exempt students from attendance requirements or attendance calculations. This change ensures consistency and accountability in compliance with state attendance measures requiring 90% attendance from all students. Students are allowed to make up all work missed during an absence unless the absence is the result of an out-of-school suspension. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete missed assignments, which are subject to individual teacher policies. Juniors may request to take 3 college visits. All seniors are allowed 2 college visits. Arrangements must be made in advance through the Counselor’s office. If arrangements are not made in advance they will not be excused. Field trips or any activity sponsored by the school are not considered absences from school. Students are responsible for informing teachers of their absences and obtaining assignments the day before the scheduled event. For credit purposes, any student that is 25 minutes or more late for a class will be considered absent from that class. Students with an attendance rate below 90% will not be allowed open lunch. Students must be in attendance for at least 4 consecutive hours of that school day to participate in or attend any school sponsored event. Students must be in attendance for at least 4 consecutive hours on Friday to participate in or attend any school sponsored weekend activities.
What happens if I'm tardy?
Tardies Grades 6-12
All students arriving to school after 7:58 am will be required to check in at the office upon arrival and obtain an admit slip prior to going to class. Tardies are cumulative for the semester and reports will be run on a bi-weekly basis.
4 tardies: 30-minute detention
5 tardies: 60-minute detention
6 tardies: 90 minute detention
7 tardies: 3 hour detention
8 tardies: 3 hour detention and closed lunch for one week
9 tardies: 3 hour detention and closed lunch for the rest of the semester
10 or more tardies: At administrator discretion, including but not limited to: Loss of good standing, assigned intervention, and possible OSS.
Keep in mind: Your tardies are CUMULATIVE FOR THE SEMESTER. This means that they keep building up, even after you’ve served the detention. They reset in August and January.
What does it mean to be in 'Good Standing'?
To be considered a student in good standing, a student must not be in violation of the attendance policy, have outstanding discipline referrals OR appear on the current F list.
In order to participate in extracurricular events including (but not limited to): dances, field trips, school-sanctioned sports events; a student must be in good standing. Students must be in attendance at school for four consecutive hours on the day of the event to be able to play in or attend an extracurricular event/activity.
Students in grades 6-12 that are not in good standing will have closed lunch and be required to sign in daily in the cafeteria.
How do I know if I am in 'Good Standing'?
Eligibility checks are done every two weeks throughout the school year to determine whether or not a student is in good standing. To be in good standing, a student cannot have any Fs or have an attendance rate lower than 90%.
If you are not in good standing when the eligibility check is done, you are not allowed to participate in or attend extra-curricular activities.
*The next tardy, grade and attendance check
will be on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Cell Phone Use
As a reminder, once you enter the building in the morning, please do not use your phone. Please put your phone on silent and keep it in your backpack for the school day.
Students should not be on their phones until 3:05 p.m. or until they have exited the building at the end of the school day.
In compliance with Missouri Senate Bill 68 (1481), cell phone use for students is prohibited during regular school hours. Students violating the policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
Electronic Devices (excluding calculators)
Students who are using electronic devices will be escorted to the office by a staff member.
1. Device may be picked up by the student at the end of the day in the office.
2. Parents will be required to pick up the device.
3. Parents will be required to pick up the device and a 60 minute student detention will be assigned.
4. Parents will be required to pick up the device and a 3 hour detention will be assigned.
*Any additional offenses may require confiscation of the device by administration.
