Physical Education Showcase
Q and A: Meet Mr. Roosevelt Williams
What are you currently teaching, coaching, involved in at WC?
I teach Lifetime Fitness, which focuses on exploring physical activities that individuals can participate in for a lifetime. The five main components of fitness; cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition are targeted through active games, sports, and workouts, as students learn and develop a path to an active and fit lifestyle. I am also Head Coach of the Warren Central Dance Team (WCDC) which started my Junior year in High School and has morphed into an essential part of the school's culture. I am also one of the sponsors of Down But Not Out Warren Boxing.
Where did you attend high school and college?
I attended Ben Davis High School however, I quickly realized that being at Warren Central and becoming a Warrior was best for me. I transferred to Warren for my sophomore year. For undergrad, I attended IUPUI and majored in Physical Education with a minor in Health Education.
What are your interests and hobbies outside of teaching?
I am a professional dancer for the Indiana Pacers and a retired dancer for The Indiana Fever Inferno. I am so involved inside and outside of school, so I typically do not have time to participate in any other activities.
Who has been your greatest influence in life?
My greatest influence in life would have to be my mom. She has taught me to never give up despite the odds stacked against me. I know that raising four boys alone was hard and there were many struggles along the way, but she mastered the art of parenting and did a wonderful job. I owe everything to her because without her pushing me along the way to be my best, without her supporting me and picking me up from those late practices, and without the sacrifices she made, I would not be who or where I am today.
What has been your BEST DAY at Warren Central?
Being able to do what I love at a place I love equates to the “best” day for me. Each day I wake up and get dressed. I pinch myself because I still can't believe I am a teacher. Since I was a little kid, I knew I wanted to teach. So, I made sure each step I took in life was towards my goal of that. Every day I am here, I am humbled and reminded that I can do anything I put my mind to, and having that reminder pushes me to be the best I can for my students and encourage them to be the best they can be as well!
