Winter Holiday Message

As we approach the winter holiday season, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our students, parents, guardians, and the entire Audubon community. We have had an incredible start to the school year, filled with energy, pride, and accomplishments.

On November 26th, we held our first-ever Pride and Excellence Pep Rally, an exciting celebration honoring students involved in our clubs, school organizations, and those receiving special recognitions. These students truly bring Audubon to life, and we could not be prouder of their achievements, leadership, and spirit.

I also want to recognize the remarkable dedication of our teachers, staff, secretaries, and administrators. Their commitment to creating meaningful, positive experiences for our students is what makes Audubon High School such a special place. I am deeply grateful for their tireless efforts and passion.

As we head into the holidays, I wish each of you a safe, happy, and healthy season. Thank you for your continued support and for being an essential part of our community.

Respectfully,

Jeffrey W. Lebb

Principal

In conjunction with our Character Education programs, these students make a difference and are a huge part of what makes Audubon such a special place. We would like to recognize some of our KIND students. Chick-fil-A has graciously donated gift cards to support our program and the KIND initiative. Audubon High School Embraces Diversity

One of the reasons our HIB numbers are well below national averages is because we embrace diversity and focus on acceptance. Throughout our classes, teachers routinely incorporate lessons and activities that center on tolerance, respect, acceptance and inclusivity. Our Character Counts morning announcements each day center on these principles and set the tone for each day of learning.

World History Students Take to The Sea Using Compass Skills World History Students Take to The Sea Using Compass Skills

On Halloween Day the World History classes cast their fortunes to the "sea" and risked it all in the name of exploration and profit! Having carefully crafted a navigation plan based purely on memory and their skill with a compass, the Juniors took to the "sea" (behind Audubon High), many making it quite the distance...and others foundering on shoals and in storms. All sailors that day got a taste of the danger, risk and reward of 17th century navigation.....yarr!

8th Grade Students Learn About Citizenship Through Successful Toy Drive 8th Grade Students Learn About Citizenship Through Successful Toy Drive

Over the last month Mr. Cosenza's 8th Grade Social Studies classes have been learning about Citizenship. They've studied the rights, duties and responsibilities of American Citizens and how we all play a part in our communities. Each student and class had a specific role to play, whether it meant going to homerooms to make announcements, stopping by sporting events for donations, making posters or hanging flyers they worked together to get the job done! On Thursday they started the wrapping process along with making cards for each shoebox. On Friday they divided, organized, packed and labeled over 80 filled shoeboxes. A big thank you to the school, Audubon community, and all others who donated this year. Our success is because of the great community we have around us. Another year down and we continue to see the impact our students can make when they set goals and work together!

Creative Technology Utilizes Engineering Design Process to Launch Catapults Creative Technology Utilizes Engineering Design Process to Launch Catapults

In Creative Technology, students are utilizing the Engineering Design Process as well as their knowledge of the six simple machines to plan, design, construct, and redesign catapults to launch for distance and accuracy. Students begin by researching catapults, developing possible solutions, and creating a technical drawing of their chosen design. Once they have done those tasks, they plan out the pieces they will need to build their catapults. Students draw in 2 dimensions all the pieces that will be cut out of draft board to construct their catapults. These drawings must be drawn 1:1 scale and be done neatly so Miss Little can scan and digitize the pieces to be cut out on the laser engraver. Once the pieces are cut out, students put their catapults together and make any necessary changes to their design by testing and redesigning as necessary. This project utilizes knowledge of the Engineering Design Process and Simple Machines, as well as 3 Dimensional thinking skills to create a final product. The current record for distance is held by Max Chrzanowski and Casey Levin with their furthest launch being 125 feet.

The final photo below is of RJ Low and Roman Santore, who won most accurate launches of 2025!

Garden of Acceptance Harvest

On Friday, November 5, our WAVE students hosted a Garden of Acceptance- Pop Up to share the final harvest from our school garden. Using fresh ingredients they grew themselves, students made and packaged delicious samples including salsa verde, banana pepper mustard, homemade tomato sauce, jalapeño jelly, and Mediterranean salad. Staff members were also invited to take home fresh produce such as tomatoes, green tomatoes, eggplant, sweet potatoes, and snackable peppers.

Students worked hard preparing and portioning the samples, creating cards with serving suggestions, and labeling each container with our signature green bean logo. Some students even came in early to help hand out the samples!

We are so thankful for the opportunity to share with the staff the wonderful vegetables from our garden. We look forward to planting again in the spring!

Recently, Mrs. Collazzo and Mr. Crowell's classes took advantage of print and electronic materials in the Media Center to research Mt. Everest and hiking expeditions that have taken place there. Students had to take a position on hiking the world's tallest mountain, and needed to consider the risks vs rewards, as well as other factors including environmental impact. Students were given an orientation on being good researchers, using information responsibly, bias, and citing sources properly.
