October 8th - 14th
What is Fire Prevention Week?
The purpose of Fire Prevention Week is to educate kids about how to prepare and stay safe in case of a fire. This is an important life skill in school and beyond.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week 2023 is "Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention."
Did you know? According to data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 74% of all U.S. fire deaths happen in the home. There are also likely to be more fatalities in a home fire in 2023 compared to 1980.
Do you have an evacuation plan?
Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes. Households with children should consider drawing a floor plan of your home, marking two ways out of each room, including windows and doors. Also, mark the location of each smoke alarm. A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire.
