Do Not Ghost Your Dentist
Your smile says a lot about you.
Your teeth and smile are the first things that people notice.
But many people think they do not need to visit the dentist unless they feel pain in their mouth.
Well, let us fill you in.
Dental check-ups are important for staying healthy. Good oral health does not just protect your teeth and gums. It can also help make it easier to manage other medical issues, such as diabetes and heart disease.
The best part? You can visit the dentist for FREE. As a Cardinal Care Smiles member, you are eligible for a FREE dental checkup every 6 months.
Here are some tips for your next dental visit:
· Tell the dental office the best days and times for your appointment. Let them know how you want them to contact you (phone, text, or email).
Submitted by: Altise M. Street, VA CCS Outreach Coordinator
· Add your appointment date and time on a paper calendar. Or add it to your mobile phone calendar and set a reminder.
· Arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment time.
· Bring your Medicaid ID card and a list of all your medications to your appointment.
· If you cannot make your appointment, call at once to make a new one. The dental office will help you find a date and time that works for you.
Remember, the dentist wants to help you have a healthy, pain-free smile.
If you need help finding a dentist, DentaQuest can help. Call us at the number on the back of your ID card.

VBthrive will work with a variety of partners to support these individuals and families in five critical areas:

- Wellbeing
VBthrive was launched thanks to the support of a three-year, $15 million grant from the City of Virginia Beach with funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. The program will also provide $10 million in business relief grants through LISC Hampton Roads.

Great information from The National Child Traumatic Stress Network spotlighting trauma informed school resources and a CHKD parenting blog about going back to school positive, prepared and productive https://www.chkd.org/Blog/Going-Back-to-School-%E2%80%93-Positive,-Prepared,-and-Productive/
Beginning the new school year can be challenging for students who have experienced trauma. Children's reactions to trauma can interfere considerably with learning and behavior at school, especially when adapting to a new environment. Schools serve as a critical system of support for children. Building a safe, consistent, and supportive environment in schools can help children cope and heal. Administrators, teachers, and staff can help reduce the effects of trauma on children by recognizing trauma responses, accommodating and responding to students in the classroom who have experienced trauma, and referring children to outside professionals when necessary. Learning about a student’s experiences can be challenging for educators and staff, and can lead to secondary traumatic stress. It is essential for educators and staff to take care of themselves, and for schools to maintain a trauma-informed structure for the entire community. The National Child Traumatic Stress Network has developed tools and materials to help educators, school staff, and administrators provide trauma-informed support in schools for students and school personnel.

Conservation Youth Team at the Virginia Zoo
The Conservation Youth Team (CYT) program is a high school volunteer and youth development program that was created for teens who are passionate about wildlife, conservation, and helping their community. Throughout the year, CYT participants learn about conservation issues, educate zoo guests about our animals, support our Safari Camp programs, and visit local organizations to participate in service projects benefiting the community. As a member of the Conservation Youth Team, teens will develop important job and life skills, build self-confidence, and earn community service hours!
The program is structured to make their time here more robust yet flexible, and hopefully more accessible to a greater number of teens. There is no minimum GPA requirement. There are also a few scholarships available that cover the first-year fees.
