Dear Families,
I have to start today’s newsletter by sharing the highlight of my week: I walked into a classroom just in time to hear a second grader asking a classmate to be his friend. The response was a happy, “YES!” followed by a handshake to seal the deal. It was such a sweet reminder of the importance of relationships and friendships. Building warm, positive relationships is a priority for us at Wessagusset, and we see it in action everyday! This week we continued to practice routines, establish expectations, and review academic skills. Thanks to the efforts of our awesome students and staff, Wessagusset has a calm, happy, productive feeling - there really is no better place to be! Here is some helpful information for the weeks ahead:
Picture Day is coming! School pictures will be taken on Friday, September 29th. To pre-order, visit mylifetouch.com and enter our Picture Day ID: EVTBZPNQ9
Grade 5 Band: On September 20th, 5th grade students will see a presentation from our 5th grade band teacher about all the instruments and how to join the band program. After the demonstration, students will bring home a brochure with all the information you need if your student is interested in joining the band program. Here is a website where you can find all the information as well. We are looking forward to starting another successful year of 5th grade band!
Lunch Bunch: Throughout the year your child may come home and mention that they joined our School Counselor, Mrs. Machado, for “Lunch Bunch”. Find out more about this special time here! Lunch Bunch
Tuesday, September 19th is a half-day with dismissal at 11:50 am.
Save the Date! Our Open House will take place on Wednesday, September 27th from 6-8 pm. We encourage families to come meet your child’s teachers, see their classroom, and tour the school. Hope to see you there! More important events and dates can be found here: WPS Important Dates
We are bringing back our special “Families are the heart of Wessagusset” bulletin board! If you would like to send in a family photo with your child (label the back, please) we would love to display your family! All photos will be returned at the end of the school year. Thank you for your help with this!

Parent Council Corner
It is that time of year again when the parent council will be asking parents to donate gift baskets to be raffled off at the open house. This is a very popular event where parents / guardians make gift baskets to be donated and raffle tickets are sold at the open house for chances to win the baskets. No basket is too big or too small. Feel free to partner with a family or two or go solo to create a basket. Sometimes the wilder the better!

Blacktop Painting - we are seeking volunteers to assist with repainting the black top on a date to be determined (Fall). Put on some old clothes, bring some snacks and music and have a great time stenciling the black top. No artistic ability needed. Please use the link below to express interest.
Stock the Teacher's Lounge. This is an initiative to express appreciation for our teachers and staff for all that they do:
Staffing the Parent Council table at the Pumpkin Give-A-Wey on 10/1/23 - we are exploring the idea of having a table at the Pumpkin Give-A-Wey at the high school on 10/1/23 from 10AM - 2PM.
