From bus routes to wedding bells: an FWCS love story
Sometimes, love finds you in the most unexpected places—including behind the wheel of a school bus.
Luke Delgado and Vessela Rizvic met in 2022 as the youngest drivers in the FWCS transportation fleet. Both had just earned their CDLs through FWCS and drove routes for Wayne High School. They'd see each other in passing until one day they parked side by side, and they struck up a conversation.
While Vessela continues to drive with FWCS, Luke now drives tour buses for entertainers. Despite different schedules, their relationship grew stronger. They talked about their future together, with Vessela thinking an engagement might happen later in the year.
Luke had other plans. After returning from a tour, he worked with FWCS transportation leaders to arrange something special with bus number 99. That is Vessela's original bus.
One morning, the couple had plans to go out to breakfast. Instead, Luke drove to the old South Transportation facility. That is where they first met. When Vessela saw her old bus in the parking lot, she excitedly hopped aboard. When she turned around, there was Luke - down on one knee. Through tears of joy, Vessela said yes to the proposal that brought their love story full circle. The couple plans to marry next year in Seattle, Luke's hometown.
Their story proves that love can blossom anywhere—even in the driver's seat of a big yellow bus.
Want to join the FWCS team? We're hiring Bus Drivers!
The wheels on the buses can’t go round and round without you as a Bus Driver. We are actively seeking Bus Drivers and Bus Assistants to grow our dedicated transportation team. No CDL? No problem! We can assist interested applicants with the process of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License, and we can even pay you as a Bus Assistant during the training period. Volunteers plant a green future at Bloomingdale
When Bloomingdale Elementary Principal Jennifer Evans put out a call for help, the community showed up and dug in.
Bloomingdale received a donation of eight trees from the Tree Canopy Growth Fund at the end of the school year. But with school out for summer break, there wasn’t enough time to get them in the ground. After hearing that Bloomingdale needed help, a dedicated group of firefighters from Fort Wayne Fire Department Station 7 and volunteers from the Bloomingdale Neighborhood Association joined students and staff to plant the new trees around the playground.
Bloomingdale Elementary is deeply grateful to the Tree Canopy Growth Fund, BNA, Station 7 and all the volunteers who made this project possible. It’s a true testament to what can happen when a community comes together to invest in its neighborhood school.
North Side's AD recognized for unifying athletics
North Side Athletic Director Andrew Klein was recently recognized by the IHSAA and Champions Together with the Unified Athletic Administrator of the Year award. The recognition celebrates his outstanding work in inclusive athletics through the Champions Together program, a partnership between Special Olympics Indiana and the IHSAA that brings together students of all abilities through Unified Sports.
Klein was nominated by both North Side colleagues and administrators from other schools, demonstrating the widespread impact of his leadership in creating opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities to participate as teammates.
The award highlights North Side's continued commitment to providing meaningful athletic experiences for all students.
60 students graduate from Peacemaker Academy
Sixty FWCS students graduated from the 2025 Peacemaker Academy this summer. Through the program, students learn the six principles of nonviolence taught by Martin Luther King Jr. These graduates will use what they’ve learned to help create positive change in their schools and community.
"This year's Peacemaker graduation is a powerful reminder of what's possible when we invest in young people and equip them to lead with courage, compassion and nonviolence," said Angelo Mante, Executive Director of Alive Community Outreach.
