Happy Summer!

Dear Davis Elementary Families,

I hope this message finds you enjoying the beautiful summer weather and making wonderful memories with your children. As we reach the heart of summer, I wanted to reach out and share some exciting updates from our school.

Davis has been a busy place this summer! We've had extensive construction and cleaning projects underway, all designed to make Davis an even more beautiful and welcoming space for your children to learn and grow. Our dedicated maintenance and facilities teams have been working tirelessly to ensure everything is ready for the upcoming school year.

I'm thrilled to share that we are fully staffed for next year, and our new teachers are eager to dive in and learn all about D303, our curriculum, and most importantly, your amazing students. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and I know they'll bring fresh energy and perspectives to our Davis community.

I hope you've had the chance to relax and enjoy the July 4th weekend with your family. Summer is such a wonderful time to connect with your children – whether you're going on family trips, splashing in pools, attending camps, or cheering from the sidelines at sports activities. These precious moments create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds that matter most.

As we look ahead to August, our excitement continues to build. We truly can't wait to welcome your children back to Davis and begin another incredible year of learning, growth, and discovery together.

Warmly,

Gina Shaw

Building Updates

The Mobile is No More!

Everything was moved out of the building and into Davis classrooms. It was demolished and grass will be planted in that area.

New LRC Shelving and Furniture

The LRC will have a fresh updated look. New shelves have been secured to the walls, new browsers are available for students to look through books, and more learning spaces are available. It is beautiful!

Air Conditioning

We will finally have AC in the Gym and Community Room. We have been under construction since the first day of summer. It has been noisy and messy at Davis with all of the work but we will be nice and cool when school begins.

Projector and Screen in the Community Room

There will be a projector and screen available for band and orchestra practice, assemblies, and lunch times.

New Benches by the Playground

New benches have replaced the old wooden ones. They are much nicer and more comfortable.

Davis Garden Upgrade

The garden just keeps growing! Thank you to Allison Thomas for coordinating the efforts of D303 grounds crew, Wasco Nursery, Eagle Scouts Ben Tegmeyer and Troy Sponsler, and volunteers. It is truly a magical space. The garden is open to everyone in the community. Feel free to water, weed, or take some fresh veggies home.

Kindergarten Round Up (for Half Day Kindergarten)

We are so excited to invite our half day kindergarten families to Davis! We will be hosting students and parents to visit Davis on Tuesday, August 5th from 4:30-5:30. We will all meet in the community room at Davis to meet some of our staff and the kindergarten team. Our kindergarten students will have the opportunity to meet with the teachers, play, explore, and meet friends in a kindergarten classroom. Parents will get more information about the nuts & bolts of Davis and get a guided tour of the building. Parents will then meet up with their kindergartener and see the classrooms. Please RSVP HERE to let us know if you will be attending with your child.

Water Bottle Design Contest

Dear Davis Families,

We’re excited to share a fun and creative opportunity for our elementary and middle school students this summer! In partnership with District 303, the St. Charles Business Alliance is hosting a Water Bottle Design Contest inviting students to design a label for a 100% recyclable aluminum water bottle. The winning design will be printed on over 1,600 bottles and handed out during the 40th Anniversary of Scarecrow Weekend in fall 2025!

Who can participate?

All D303 elementary and middle school students are welcome to submit a design.

What are the judges looking for?

Designs will be evaluated based on:

• Creativity – Is the design unique and visually appealing?

• Relevance – Does it reflect the 40th Anniversary of Scarecrow Weekend?

• Execution – Is the artwork clean, clear, and high quality?

How do students submit their design?

All details, including the downloadable template and the submission form, can be found here:

Water Bottle Design Contest Info & Submission Link

Deadline to submit: August 20th

Students are welcome to start their designs over the summer, and art teachers may also be sharing this opportunity during the first week of school for those who’d like to participate then.

We can’t wait to see what our creative students come up with!
