We're back with another episode of our Profile of a Viking series with Senior and National Honor Society President Undra Pillows on Diversity & Inclusion. "I think it's important to have Diversity & Inclusion, particularly in a school setting, because it shows the people that come after us that they're able to do what we're doing." Check it out here:

Congrats are in order to HF's Chess Team, who went undefeated in Saturday's IHSA Chess Sectionals, tying for 1st Place. Guided by the stellar performances of Sophomore Maurice Moore and Freshman Makhi Fox, the team showcased exceptional teamwork and strategic brilliance. Junior Everett Van Til, with 3 out of 4 victories, further solidified the team's success.

The Vikings finished the SWSC Chess Season in 1st Place for the Red Division, with a commendable record of 7-2. In the Individual Results for the Red Division, Everett Van Til claimed the first-place honor. Junior Matthew Brison and Maurice Moore celebrated their impressive skills by tying for 2nd Place.

As our Viking Debaters prepare for a few more tournaments before Districts, the team escaped the cold and flew to Long Beach, California to participate in the Peninsula Invitational to face competitors from all over the country.

Among the debated topics were the pros and cons of repealing Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act, which says that "No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider." (In short, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms are or are not responsible for what their users post).

Our Viking vocalists continue to hit all the right notes across the state. Seniors Charisma Boler and Jazmin Rhodes sang with the Illinois All-State Chorus and Honors Chorus (respectively) in Peoria last weekend. Our Viking Ensemble also performed at the State Competition Contest, featuring Senior Ave Van Til’s State Champion Vocal Ensemble Composition.

We're super grateful to have our Viking Alumni back to spend some time with our students and share their helpful knowledge and experiences. Our Viking Speaker Series continued this week with Bryce Gray ('16) and Steve Sarowitz ('83).

2016 Alum Bryce Gray was a football and baseball star during his time as a Viking. Now, he's scoring on Wall Street as an Associate in Future and Options Sales and Trading at JPMorgan Chase & Co in New York. Bryce generously spent the day with our Business students on Friday, before assuming the role as keynote speaker at Saturday's Hot Stove Fundraiser for our Viking Baseball Booster Club. P.S. Stay tuned for the next episode of "Walking the Path with Wakeley", where you'll get to hear more from Bryce with Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley.

On Monday, 1983 Alum Steve Sarowitz joined our Film and Entrepreneurship students for discussions on his success in the industry as well as how he hopes to "exhaust his fortune" by making the world a better place. Steve, founder of payroll system Paylocity, has executive produced several films including Disney's Clouds (2020), and plans to continue using his wealth to support films that make an impact and have strong messages.

Are you an alum interested in sharing your knowledge, resources and tips with our students? Complete this short survey and HF's Alumni Director Victoria Koblick will contact you. Once a Viking, Always a Viking.
