Principal's Update
Back to School Night
Thank you for attending Back to School Night. The more your child sees that you are involved in their school, the better their learning, social emotional well-being, and academic performance. Here is a good article that explains the relationship.
Traffic Safety
The city's Department of Transportation will be conducting a crosswalk study at Brighten Avenue and Ross, near the school parking lot exit, to determine if a crosswalk is warranted there. Updates to come.
Student Survey Results
- 94% of third-eighth graders reported they are happy that Steindorf is their school most or all of the time.
- 97% of these same students reported that adults at Steindorf care about the kids at Steindorf most or all of the time.
Warmly,
Debbie Stein
Wait Until End of 8th Grade for Smartphones
CSD Board & Parents Say Yes to Waiting for the Smartphone
The "Wait Until 8th" pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least the END of 8th grade. Let’s protect the elementary and middle school years from the distractions and the dangers of a smartphone. Banding together helps decrease the pressure to have a phone at an early age. Read more about it here and see the CSD Board's Resolution below. (Wait Until 9th website) Wait Until 8th
Personal & Hired Lunch Deliveries
Goes Into Effect Monday, 8/31/26
In addition to having breakfast at home before school and the food students bring to school for the day, Steindorf provides complimentary breakfast at snack time and lunch at lunch time. We will no longer accept food, drink, or water bottle deliveries for students during the school day, including those brought by delivery services or brought by friends or family members. This will help us follow the rule to prevent the sharing of food due to allergies and cultural practices while also preventing distractions during the instructional day. Thank you for helping us to foster the same life skills of planning, responsibility, problem solving, and independence that we instill in all other aspects of school to prepare students for life.
Volunteer Clearance Requirements
Update: Volunteering in Cambrian
To align with new California volunteer requirements for the purpose of supporting student safety, all volunteers must complete new clearance requirements before volunteering. This is just a precursor to volunteering for the school. WE STILL HAVE GREAT NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS AND APPRECIATE THE COUNTLESS WAYS THEY ENHANCE THE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE AND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE PART OF OUR SPECIAL COMMUNITY!
This is a state law. Not a Cambrian issue.
The law is about instructional time, not HSC after school family events. One time family events during the day like donuts with dads, family lunch picnic, watching PLC presentations, or watching school assemblies are outside of the intention of this law.
Fingerprinting is based on the organization. If you have not been fingerprinted specifically for the Cambrian School District (CSD), then you must get fingerprinted to volunteer within CSD. CSD is not affiliated with Cambrian Little League.
Volunteers may be fingerprinted elsewhere. You do not have to get fingerprinted through the CSD site offerings. However, you must go through the CSD volunteer registration process regardless of where you get fingerprinted.
See the Cambrian School District Website for Volunteering Directions & FAQ
Fingerprinting Schedule
Those who want to volunteer may get fingerprinted at any of the following CSD sites. See Fingerprinting Schedule below.

Importance of Home & School Club (HSC)
Our Version of PTA
Every Steindorf family is a member of the HSC!
Steindorf is a public school. Funding is determined by government entities that focus on safety, academics, payroll, and facilities. The costs of what Steindorf provides students are not covered by the school budget alone.
What Does the HSC Do?
Steindorf’s HSC funds additional programs and services not afforded by the school’s annual budget.
The HSC organizes and staffs community-building events for the school.
Every Family is Asked to Contribute $450 Annually to HSC!
That translates to $2.50 per school day! Every little bit helps to provide vital programs and events, such as those listed below, to maintain our thriving school community.

Math League Information Night
Friday, August 28, 7:00 – 7:30pm
We invite 4th–8th grade students who like math—and their awesome parents—to be part of the Steindorf Math League!
That’s right—we’re also looking for parent volunteers to join the journey! No experience needed; we provide books, digital resources and advice!
What is Math League
Steindorf Math League is a weekly, one-hour after-school program focused on advanced problem-solving. Classes are led by parent volunteers and intended to stretch students beyond the typical school math curriculum. All students participate in the five-contest Math Olympiad (MOEMS) elementary or middle school series.
Virtual Information Night
We will host a virtual Information Night to share more about the program and answer your questions. All families are welcome!
We especially encourage new families and families with students in grades 7–8 to attend, as we are still seeking parent coaches for our 7–8th grade classes. Parent volunteers are essential to making these classes possible.
Friday, August 28, 7:00 – 7:30pm Google Meet link
More information, including schedule and testing dates is available here: Math League Interest Survey
We can't wait to kick off a brand-new year of math adventures and discoveries. Let’s grow our math minds—together!
Want to Volunteer in the Classroom?
Steindorf Project Cornerstone is looking for parent/guardian volunteers to read to our classrooms once a month! No experience is needed—all books and lesson materials are provided.
YMCA Project Cornerstone is a community initiative with the mission to create an environment where adults support and value all youth so they grow up feeling valued, respected, and known.
If you're interested in reading for your child's class, please reach out to your classroom teacher or contact Kate Viernes, our Project Cornerstone Lead at Steindorf at steindorf.pc@gmail.com.
After School Enrichment Classes are HERE!

If you have questions or need support, you can always email the team at hello@homeroom.com. We're looking forward to another great season!
Join the Fall Festival Planning Committee!
Our Kick off meeting will be ON ZOOM September 1st at 7pm. We are looking for a group of volunteers to help plan the event (we will be reaching out more broadly for volunteers to help the day-of as well!)
We will be coordinating things like: Inflatables / Food / Activities / Logistics / Donations/ Volunteers/ Marketing
The event will take place in October, so we need to get started! We will meet regularly leading up to the event, at a time that works for our team. Please contact steindorf.fallfest@gmail.com
Staff Hospitality: Stock the Staff Lounge
New this year, our Stock the Staff Lounge program is a school-wide effort designed to boost morale and show our gratitude to the incredible team that keeps our school running every single day, including classroom teachers and aides, office staff, special subject teachers, the special education team, custodial staff, and our hardworking substitutes!
Each month, families from a featured grade level come together to donate individual snacks and drinks. Families also have the optional opportunity to pool funds together to provide a catered breakfast or lunch for the staff during their designated month.
Questions or want to get involved? Contact the Hospitality Team at steindorfhospitality@gmail.com
September is 5th grade’s chance to shine! Drop off all donations to the office.
Monthly Walk n Roll to School Day
Save the date! Sep 9th 2026 will be our first Monthly Walk and Roll to School day!
As usual, we will use our app (https://www.scantoschool.com/) to track participation! The QR code tags will go out to all students by the end of next week! As a reminder, if you have registered your student, parents can receive a notification once your student is scanned upon arriving at the school. First Spirit Assembly and This Week's Library Launch
Today students and families enjoyed the first spirit assembly of the year. We concluded the week-long celebration of our Library Launch with a word parade where students and staff dressed as an adjective in celebration of literacy.
