Dear Families and Community,

Over the past several weeks, we have been reminded of the essential role you play in our shared purpose of educating the children of our community. The outer circle of our Strategic Plan includes the following:

The Community supports learners through collaborative school and district-level partnerships, engagement in and support for integrated curriculum and project-based learning, and advocacy and funding for responsive programming.

When we learned about increased food insecurity in our community, you responded immediately to our school’s pre-holiday food drives. Thank you for sending gift cards and dry/canned goods for families impacted by the government shut down. By modeling compassion, you show our students the power of kindness and what it means to care for one another and be kind citizens.

At the same time, your generous donations to our San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF) continue to reach new heights. At the November 6 Board Meeting, our partners from SCEF, Kathy Parmer-Lohan and Melissa Schmidt, and PTACC, Corbie Kiernan, brought a check for $3,277,102. These funds make whole-child education possible - supporting electives such as music and art, as well as integrated curriculum like project-based learning. This programming helps every student find their niche and passion, fueling joy in learning and strengthening daily attendance. We are deeply grateful.

Thank You Volunteers

We also want to acknowledge the remarkable volunteerism across ALL our campuses. Your involvement has elevated celebrations of culture and identity throughout SCSD. At the Tierra Linda/Mariposa Multicultural Night, families from Arroyo and Central joined the TL/MA community for an evening filled with heritage music, dance, and food. Curious students tasted dishes from Norway and the Philippines, watched Irish dancers, and enjoyed Mariachi Music - transforming the gym into a vibrant museum of culture!

During this season of gratitude, we also extend appreciation to the many volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to the operational work of the district. Your service on committees ensures transparency, strengthens community understanding, and supports our Bond Measure H and our Parcel Tax. As a district funded primarily by the state, SCSD relies on the generosity and engagement of our local tax payers. We are grateful for your partnership in advancing our mission to educate future-ready, kind citizens through an exceptional public school education.

Arundel Project Based Learning Buddies

Our 3rd graders at Arundel Elementary recently used Project-Based Learning (PBL) to create meaningful projects and had the wonderful opportunity to share them with their Kindergarten buddies! Students proudly taught their younger peers about their Native American tribes, sharing knowledge with creativity and enthusiasm. Thank you to all students, teachers, and Kindergarten friends for making this learning experience so special.
