Midterms

Key points about midterms: It is of essence to remind our students/children of the importance of high school midterms that are coming up (January 21-23, 2025!

Assessment of learning: Midterms provide a comprehensive evaluation of how well students have grasped the course material up to that point in the semester.

Early intervention: By identifying areas of weakness early on, students can focus their study efforts and seek help from teachers or tutors to improve their understanding before the material becomes more complex.

Study habit development: Preparing for midterms encourages students to develop effective study habits, such as note-taking, reviewing key concepts, and time management.

College preparedness: Midterms simulate the types of tests students will encounter in college, helping them practice critical thinking and test-taking strategies.

Course correction opportunity: Teachers can use midterm results to adjust their teaching methods and pace to better support student learning.

WIDA Testing

Key points about WIDA

1. In the next couple of months, ELD students in our district are scheduled to participate in the annual WIDA ACCESS for ELLs. This assessment is required by the State of Michigan for all students with English Learner status. The assessment has four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Listening. The test is untimed, but the approximate total amount of time needed is 4 hours. If you are unfamiliar with the WIDA assessment, use this link to access test practice and sample items: www.tinyurl.com/q43d9vj (select the first option, ACCESS for ELLs Test Practice)

2. A letter will be sent home notifying students and their families of the upcoming WIDA test and it will be given to them, a week before the test dates. If you haven’t received a copy of this letter, we will be happy to forward it to you upon request.

3. We emphasize the importance of attendance on testing dates and encourage families to notify staff if their children will be absent. We can streamline the testing process and reduce anxiety and disruption for students.
