Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Arkansas

The walking interpretive program goes from the visitor center to Little Rock Central High School and shares the story of the Little Rock Nine, desegregation, education, and the civil rights movement. The route of the program may go onto the grounds of Little Rock Central High School, the grounds of the Magnolia Mobil Station, into the Commemorative Garden, and the Elizabeth Eckford Bus Bench, all of which are accessible. The landing at the main entrance to Little Rock Central High School is not accessible.

The Ranger-led interpretive program involves crossing two streets at an intersection to reach Little Rock Central High School. The program may involve several periods outdoors in various temperatures. In the event of inclement weather, the program may either be modified to stay inside the visitor center or shortened in duration.

We strongly recommend that you bring water and dress appropriately for the weather on the day of the interpretive program. Fall and winter afternoons can be windy and chilly, so it is suggested to layer clothing to keep comfortable indoors and outdoors during the program.

Friday, January 27th, Academic Day- Math!

Bowling and Skating is $10 per person CASH only. No charge for those just watching. Again, exact change and cash only!

Math helps us with fun things!

How is math used in bowling? Strikes are scored as a 10, which is the maximum number of pins that can be knocked down. This is written as an X on the score sheet. If you get a strike, you still get two chances to knock down 10 pins. So at most, you can get 30 points per round because 10+10+10 = 30. To achieve a score of 300, you need to get 12 strikes in a row (9 strikes in the first 9 frames and 3 strikes in the 10th frame). In Five Pin bowling, bowling a perfect game will give you 450 points where each strike is worth 15 points.

Roller skating meets math. Every time you skate, you are putting math into action! When you begin skating, you are actually proving Newton's first law of motion. Your roller skate wheels will not move unless an outside force moves them. Additionally, the wheels won't stop moving until an outside force makes them stop. This concept translated into a math equation is weight = mass x gravity. Roller skating uses 80% of your body's muscles and gives you a great cardio workout while burning up to 650 calories an hour while having fun!

Card Making Extravaganza Event, Pine Bluff, AR 11.10.22

Everyone deserves a mailbox full of homemade cards, and we’re on a mission to make that happen! Or write a thank you card to those in your community, such as firefighters, EMTs, cafeteria staff, food industry workers, or someone else. It might feel difficult at first to be writing to someone you don’t know. But pretend like you are having a conversation with a new friend! Think about what you can thank them for and the acts of service they provide for you and your family. We will provide all the supplies needed to make cards and find local organizations to deliver the cards.
