Program Components
At Mead Elementary, school counselors prioritize the whole child by offering individual and small group counseling along with presenting classroom guidance lessons weekly to respond to the student's needs. In order to help students achieve success, the school counselors identify and coordinate resources. As consultants, the counselors assist the school staff and parents to better understand the developmental process of students. Counselors work closely with stakeholders to support students’ academic, career, personal, and social development, guided by the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling.
Guidance Curriculum
The Mead Counseling Department provides 24 classroom guidance lessons in the content area of intrapersonal effectiveness, interpersonal effectiveness, post-secondary education and career readiness, and personal health and safety. Classroom Guidance Lessons are delivered, covering topics like bully prevention, being a good friend, coping skills, goal setting, positive self-concept, conflict resolution, career exploration, and drug prevention. Additionally, Tier 2 Classroom Guidance Lessons are also delivered as needed, focusing on subjects such as grief after a teacher’s retirement, kindness, personal boundaries, and self-efficacy.
