JABSOM ANNOUNCEMENTS
Starting From the Inside Out: JABSOM’s 2025 Internal Giving Campaign
At JABSOM, philanthropy begins at the heart of our circle—family first. If we ask others to support our mission, we believe our own ʻohana should lead the way.
For seventeen years, our faculty and staff have demonstrated this commitment through Starting From the Inside Out, JABSOM’s annual internal giving campaign. Together, you have contributed more than $9 million to strengthen the medical school and the community we serve. Your generosity provides resources that directly enhance our teaching, research, and service—resources that are especially critical in times of uncertain funding. Your support also gives JABSOM the flexibility to address emerging needs quickly and effectively.
Employee giving is more than fulfilling our daily responsibilities. It reflects a personal belief in JABSOM’s mission: “We believe in this school enough to invest in it ourselves.”
This November, we invite you to make a gift to the area of JABSOM that inspires you most. To encourage participation, matching funds will be available:
Dollar-for-dollar match up to $50 per person (first come, first served).
If matching funds remain after all donors are matched at $50, the balance will be distributed proportionally based on gift size.
Your early gift increases the chance of receiving the full match—so don’t wait! Together, we can ensure JABSOM continues to have the resources and resilience to serve Hawaiʻi for generations to come.
REMINDER: 2024-2025 Annual Faculty Report Submission
UH Compensated and Core Teaching Faculty Only:

Please check with your department regarding internal submission deadlines. Please contact Lori Emery at lmatsuza@hawaii.edu with any questions or log in issues.

Tuesday, November 18: Unleash Assessment Superpower Leveraging Lamakū for Data-Driven Rapid Pedagogical Improvement
Tuesday, November 18
11:00 am – 12:15 pm

Imagine this: the moment when students complete a quiz or immediately after you grade the assignments, you can view the achievement on each student learning outcome (SLO). This allows you to adjust your teaching to make rapid pedagogical improvement.
In this workshop, we’ll explore the essential Lamakū functions for course-level assessment, including:
- entering course SLOs
- setting achievement levels
- aligning quizzes, assignments, and rubrics with SLOs
- choosing achievement calculation methods
- viewing and interpreting the Master Gradebook for immediate insights.
Participants will practice setting up Lamakū assessment functions and learn assessment-for-rapid-pedagogical-improvement practices from national showcases.
