Lights, Learning, Wonder!
Lights, Learning, Wonder
Week of August 11th-15th
Dear Westwood Families,
As we get ready to start back at school on Monday, it is time to start helping your child ease back into a school routine. Here are a few simple ways to help your student feel ready and confident on day one:
-
Start setting an earlier bedtime – A good night’s sleep helps students focus, learn, and feel their best each day.
-
Establish a morning routine – Practicing the school-day routine now can make the first week smoother and less stressful.
-
Talk about school in a positive way – Help your child get excited by discussing what they’re looking forward to, like seeing friends or learning something new. See you bright and early on Monday when school starts at 7:45 am.
Here’s to a wonderful week— filled with light, learning, and a sense of wonder!

Our School Day
Our office is open from 7:20 am to 4:00 pm. We open the doors to our building at 7:20 am and school starts right at 7:45 am. Dismissal is at 3:10 pm every day except Wednesday when we have early dismissal at 1:50 pm.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Car Riders:
If you have students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade, your students will need to be dropped off and picked up in the front of the building.
If you have students in grades 3rd-5th your students will need to be dropped off and picked up on the east side of the building.
If you have children in K-2 and 3-5, they will use the front car rider line.
For the safety of all students, please have their car tag hanging on the rear view mirror.
Teachers and support staff will be available to help students find their way to their classroom the first few days of school.
Walkers:
In preparation for the construction of our new building, our walkers will be learning a new arrival and dismissal procedure. Even though the construction fencing isn't up yet, we want to go ahead and establish routines now so we don't have to switch things up later.
All walkers will need to come to school from McRay- not the back alley or back by Walker St. Once construction fencing is up, those areas will be inaccessible.
All walkers will exit out the front doors of the school. Parents who are picking up kids to walk home with them should wait by the gazebo (please don't crowd around the front door).
We will have a crossing guard for all kids to cross McRay. Everyone must cross then turn right or left. Once construction begins, the sidewalk down where we used to have walkers exit will be closed, so we want to practice now!
Kindergarten and 1st grade students will be kept inside and connected with older sibilngs before the come out the front door.
We appreciate your patience as we work through all of these items on the first days of school. Our students' safety is our number one priority. We cannot do it without your help!
Not a new face in the building but under a NEW role!
Meet our new teachers/staff!

How do I receive information from Westwood?
PHONE CALLS: We also send out phone calls through an automated system; you will receive these calls if your phone number is correct in Registration Gateway. If your number changes, you can update the information in Registration Gateway, or call the office to update.
SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE: The weekly parent update and other announcements/stories are also posted on our school's Facebook page and website. We are working on activating our school's Instagram account also- we'll let you know when that's up and running.
PAPER NOTES: We also send out paper notes at times; most of these will be sent in folders that come home every Tuesday. Every now and then, we need to send information on other days, so it's a great practice to check the backpacks each afternoon/evening.
We don't want you to miss any information, so we put things out in lots of ways!
