Dear Parents/Guardians,
I’m excited to extend an invitation to you for the upcoming Gilbert Parent Ambassadors Committee (GPAC) meeting, scheduled for Tuesday night, November 7th, at 6:00. The meeting will be held in the Library Learning Commons.
The focus of this meeting will be on the invaluable services provided by The Gilbert Counseling Department, and we are honored to have our esteemed School Social Worker, Mr. Jason Cerbone, as our guest speaker for the evening. Mr. Cerbone will provide crucial insights into the utilization of our school social workers and will shed light on the current state of mental health within our school and community. Furthermore, he will share practical examples of interventions conducted with students and their families, providing a comprehensive understanding of the Counseling Department's daily operations.
The information shared at this meeting will be beneficial for all parents, helping to foster a deeper understanding of the resources available to students and families within our school community. Your attendance and active participation in this meeting will contribute to our collective efforts to create a supportive and nurturing environment for our students.
I highly encourage you to mark your calendars and make every effort to attend this significant event. Your presence and participation are integral to the success of our school community. Together, we can ensure that our students receive the necessary support and guidance for their academic and emotional well-being.

Homecoming Illuminates the Heart of The Gilbert School
Homecoming 2023 came to a close over TGS as Saturday night's dance wound down in a whirlwind of music and "old Hollywood"-style celebration. Victory on the football field at Saturday afternoon's game with a 20-7 win over Seymour High School only added to revelry. The TGS student body wholeheartedly embraced the 2023 Spirit Week festivities, right up through Friday morning's amazing class wall reveals, and the afternoon's Pep Rally (where the seniors dominated the faculty in the tug-of-war!) Take a look at the pictures below. Go Yellowjackets!
Special thanks go out to Mrs. Zap and the Student Council for planning and pulling off a highly successful Homecoming Spirit Week! Their dedication and hard work contributed to the tremendous success of this event, and the creation of lasting memories for all!

Currently, the Yellowjacket team is 2-4, ranking 25th in the state. At present, Gilbert's game is Super Smash Brothers. Sound like fun? Yellowjacket Marching Band Season Winding Down
The season is almost over for the Yellowjacket Marching Band, but it has been a great success! Our 2023 production is called "Impact" and it tells a story of a rather large object hurtling towards the Earth! In a very rainy season we only attended one competition, but at the Southington High School Music of the Knight we scored one of the highest scores in our competitive history! The season wraps up with 2 home games in November, one on the 4th and the last one on the 11th. Lastly, we debuted our new uniforms at the Memorial Day Parade last year, but we officially unveiled them this season on the field! We hope to see you at one of the final performances!
Gilbert Students Perform at the Berkshire Music Festival
The Berkshire Music Festival returned this year with a concert on October 6th. Students from Nonnewuag, Shepaug, Terryville, Thomaston, Northwestern, Lewis Mills, Torrington, Housatonic, LItchfield, Wamogo, and The Gilbert School all gathered at the host school Lewis Mills to rehearse and put on a fantastic concert. This year's festival had a lot of Gilbert representation! We had 14 students accepted into the festival, Adam Atkins (Gilbert Choir Director) was the Choir Chair, Scott MInnerly (Gilbert Director of Bands), was one of the band conductors, and the Choir Conductor was Gilbert Alumnus, Nhung Truong (Class of 2008). Gilbert Yellowjackets Athletics
By Josh Penn, Gilbert Athletic Director
The fall season is beginning to wrap up with only Football having any games left. Girls Soccer had its final game on Halloween, closing out the season against our cross-town rival Northwestern. Girls Soccer had their Senior Night under the lights against Wamogo. The team was down 2-0 and made an epic comeback led by Senior Captain Ivy Davis who scored 2 goals in the 5-2 victory. Girls soccer also made history this season by playing the first soccer game at The Gilbert School in over 30 years! Great season girls - and I look forward to next season when we are competing for the Berkshire League Title and a run in States!
Boys Soccer finished their season with two straight wins against the Thomaston Boys. Freshman James Slauta and Junior Bernardo Aguiar scored 3 goals a piece in the final game! Great job this season boys, I appreciate and respect your commitment to the team and we will be back to playing varsity next year!
Football earned a hard-fought win against Seymour to keep their playoff hopes alive. GNH battled for four straight quarters in the 20-7 win. They have 3 games remaining and need to win out to have a chance to make the playoffs. You got this GNH!
Volleyball had their senior night and Pink-out game in October. There was a great turnout and the volleyball team raised over $300 dollars to go towards breast cancer research. The varsity team played hard but lost in the end. JV played one of their best games of the year and got the win!

International Girls Night Out at the Palace Theater
By Debra LaRoche Walls, Dean of Admissions
On Wednesday evening of October 4, six international students and Dean of Admissions, Debra Walls, headed to the Waterbury Palace Theater to see the musical play, “Pretty Woman”. Many of the girls had never seen the movie or had been to a theater to see a musical so it was a night that was truly enjoyed by all.
Field trips for international students are traditionally planned for Saturday afternoons. They are optional to each student if they want to go on the trip or stay and enjoy a relaxing day at the residence hall. This was a special weekly evening event that the girls and Ms. Walls were looking forward to sharing together.
