ATTENTION: Rising 4th and 5th Graders

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl at Wilson Creek (2026–2027)

Wilson Creek is excited to offer a Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB) team for the 2026–2027 school year! This opportunity is open to rising 4th and 5th grade students who enjoy reading and working as part of a team.

Students who join the HRRB team will read and become familiar with 10 selected books for the year’s Reading Bowl. The 2026–2027 book list includes:

  • Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell
  • J vs. K by Kwame Alexander and Jerry Craft
  • Botticelli's Apprentice: A Graphic Novel by Ursula Murray Husted
  • Monster Locker by Jorge Aguirre and Andrés Vera Martínez
  • Spark by Chris Baron
  • Teddy vs. the Fuzzy Doom by Braden Hallett
  • The Creepening of Dogwood House by Eden Royce
  • Opal Watson: Private Eye by Brittany J. Thurman
  • Into the Rapids by Ann Braden
  • The AI Incident by J.E. Thomas

A limited number of these books will be available for checkout from the Wilson Creek Media Center over the summer, allowing interested students to get a head start on reading. Families who would like to borrow books this summer should contact Mrs. Pence for more information.

In the fall, students interested in joining the team will complete an application. Wilson Creek will also host a school‑based Reading Bowl, where 5–10 students will be selected to represent the school at the county‑level competition. Up to 10 students from Wilson Creek will attend the Reading Bowl competition in spring 2027.

If your child loves reading and friendly competition, this is a wonderful opportunity to grow their skills and confidence—consider encouraging them to participate!

Wildcat Student Spotlight- ASHVIK SURESH

Ashvik’s journey in music began at just six years old in India, when he chose to learn the keyboard as part of a school activity—with a little encouragement from his parents. It quickly became clear that he had a natural sense of rhythm and talent, building a strong foundation in his first year of lessons. After moving to Atlanta at age nine, Ashvik reignited his passion by joining School of Rock, where he now studies keyboard under Mr. Mike. Today, he continues to grow as a dedicated young musician, full of passion and promise. https://youtube.com/shorts/FGdSJLTl7tY?si=Wm9uK0XzG54zlKyx

If your child has a special talent or performance you’d like us to highlight, please let me know. I would love to feature more of our amazing students in upcoming weekly newsletters!

Dear Wilson Creek Families,

I write this with mixed emotions to share that I have accepted a position as the CST of Medlock Bridge. This decision was a very difficult one for me because Wilson Creek has been my home for the past 15 years. While it was not an easy choice, I believe wholeheartedly it is the right professional one for me to make.

Being part of the Wilson Creek community has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. Your children have truly felt like my own, and it has been the privilege of a lifetime to watch them grow, cheer them on, be silly with them, and share in the everyday moments—hugs, high fives, and little waves in the hallway. Your kids are what make this work so special. I am incredibly thankful for the relationships we have built and the trust you have shown me.

I have no doubt that the next literacy coach will be incredibly blessed to join Wilson Creek and will be welcomed with the same warmth and support that you have always shown me. They will pick up right where I left off, and I know your children will continue to be in such good hands.

While I may be moving to a new role, I will remain close by and will continue to cheer on Wilson Creek and all of its students, families, and staff. This community will always be family to me.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your children’s journey. It has truly been an honor.

With gratitude,
Suzanne Harrington

Not returning the WCES next year? Action Needed

As we begin planning student placement for the upcoming school year, we kindly ask families to notify us if their child will not be returning for the fall of 2026. If your child will not be attending Wilson Creek for the 2026–2027 school year, please complete the form linked below:

Students Not Returning Fall 2026 – Fill out form

Families who are formally withdrawing a student from Wilson Creek are required to complete and electronically sign a withdrawal form through the Parent Portal. To initiate this process, please email Ms. Bradley at WCESResidency@fultonschools.org to request the form. An active Infinite Campus account is required to complete the withdrawal.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we plan for the upcoming school year.

ACTION NEEDED: Census Verification Update

Hi Wilson Creek Parents,

We have an important action item for all families to complete as we prepare for the upcoming school year: the Census Verification Update.

Below, you’ll find details from Fulton County outlining how to complete this process. Completing the census verification is essential for student safety, as it ensures we have your most up-to-date contact information in case of an emergency. This includes verifying your home address, emergency contacts, and approved individuals for student pickup.

If this form is not completed, the school cannot be confident that we have accurate information on file, which may impact student safety and required school procedures.

The deadline to complete the Census Verification Update is May 31. This process only takes a few minutes, so we encourage you to complete it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this important matter and for partnering with us to keep our students safe.

Help Us Keep Your Student Safe – Census Verification Update

Keeping students safe is our top priority. To do that, we rely on accurate and up-to-date family and emergency information for every student in our schools.

Why Census Verification Matters

Census verification allows the district and schools to:

  • Know who is authorized to pick up your child
  • Reach families quickly during emergencies
  • Ensure smooth and safe dismissals, including early dismissals or evacuations
  • Maintain accurate contact and household information

Updating this information is an important step in making sure we can care for your child in any situation.

What Families Need to Do

Census verification can be completed by Sunday, May 31 through Infinite Campus Online Registration.

We kindly ask all families to:

  • Log in to Infinite Campus
  • Review and update student and household information
  • Review and update address
  • Confirm emergency contacts and authorized pickup individuals

Even if your information has not changed, completing the verification confirms that we have the most accurate information on record.

When to Complete It

Please complete your census verification before the start of the school year. This helps schools prepare and ensures student safety from day one.

If you need help accessing Infinite Campus or have questions, your school office is happy to assist.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep all students safe, supported, and accounted for.

Click here for the step-by-step Emergency Release guide.

Clinic medication information

Please remember to pick up any medication that your child may have in the clinic by dismissal on the last day of school. You may pick up anytime starting on May 4th. Any medication left in the clinic by the end of the school day (May 21th) will be disposed of.

Also, remember that a new Medication Authorization forms and/or Heath Care Plan for your child will need to be completed by you and your Physician every school year. You can retrieve new forms at: https://www.fultonschools.org/all-departments/academics/district-health-services/clinic-forms.

Thank you, Ankita

Future Absence Requests

We will not accept any future absence requests between May 11th – May 21st. This time of year is extremely busy as students are taking end of year assessments, completing major projects, and participating in end of year activities with their classes. Therefore, any future absence requests that are made for the final 2 weeks of school will be denied as we have too many critical dates to plan around for this time of year. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing all of our wildcats in attendance as we wrap up the school year.

Also, we need 5 days advance notice before the first requested absence date for all future absence requests. This applies to both pre-approved absence requests and remote learning absence requests. This allows our teachers and staff time to prepare for a students future absence.

Attendance Matters ALL DAY, EVERYDAY

TAKE ATTENDANCE SERIOUSLY

It’s common for students to experience a significant increase in chronic absenteeism during the winter months due to an increase in typical illnesses. If your child must be absent due to illness, please email WCESResidency@fultonschools.org, your child’s (1) legal first and last name, (2) teacher’s name, (3) all the dates your child was absent, and the (4) reason for missing school. Please also copy your child's homeroom teacher on the email. It is important to include a photo or scanned image of the doctor’s note, if you take your child to be seen. If your child is missing a lot of school due to illness, please reach out to our clinic assistant, Ms. Ankita Doshi, for guidance. Chronic absenteeism occurs when students miss 10% or more of school for any reason.

Additionally, it's important that kids arrive to school on time every day. Please remember that our car rider line can back up closer to 7:30. Consider being in line closer to 7:10 or by having your child ride the school bus to prevent tardies.
