The LMS Express
January 18, 2025
Hello all,
It's cold out, but things are cooking here at LMS! In and out of the classroom, on the basketball court, ski course, or wrestling mat, LMS students continue to grow, learn, and excel. So many exciting things happen here on a regular basis, it's hard to sum them all up in a few words or in a single newsletter. That being said, please enjoy a glimpse at the goings-on here with this edition of the LMS Express. I hope everyone has an enjoyable and restful long weekend, and thanks for having a look!
Be well,
Tom

Students are encouraged to get a good night's sleep this week (as always :), and to eat a good breakfast each morning. The NWEA test is an important part of the work that we do with our students - thank you for your support this week in helping prepare students to be at their best!
Farewell to Mr. Concannon
Dr. Rooney returned from maternity leave this week, and we are all very excited to have her back! At the same time, we are sad to say goodbye to Mr. Concannon, who has been our assistant principal while Dr. Rooney was out. "Mr. C." has been a tremendous asset to LMS, and he will be missed. Thank you, Mr. Concannon! We wish you the best!

News From Nurse Gage
Hand Washing
I have been seeing and hearing of lots of GI illnesses, so please remind students to wash their hands often throughout the day, or use hand sanitizer.
Stay healthy out there folks!!
Medications
Reminder: PLEASE DO NOT send your student to school with medication. I have been finding that students are carrying and administering their own medication, both prescription and over the counter. Per our student handbook, students are not allowed to self medicate.
Please refer to the student handbook which states the following:
Parent/Guardian permission is required before ANY medication, including nonprescription medication, may be given at school. All medication, both prescription and over the counter, must be delivered to the school nurse. It should be in the original container and properly labeled. Prescription medication must be labeled with the student’s name, the physician’s name, the name of the medication, and the instructions. Once in possession of written permission signed by both the parent/guardian AND the prescribing physician, the nurse can administer prescription medication to the student during school hours.
Thank you for helping to keep our 470 Lebanon Middle School students safe! As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

LMS Rowing Club
The LMS Indoor Rowing Club met in the cafeteria for the first time after school on Thursday, led by Mr. Hartwick. Over the next six weeks, students will learn how to use the rowing machine, or "erg" to get a full-body workout! This is a great way to prepare for real rowing through the Upper Valley Rowing Foundation in the Spring!
Rowing Fun Fact: Physiologists claim that rowing a 2,000-meter race – equivalent to 1.25 miles – is equal to playing two back-to-back basketball games.

Wood Shop News
Wood Shop Race Day!
5th and 6th graders have worked hard for several weeks to convert a simple block of wood into a superfast dragster. They learned some basic physics lessons about aerodynamics, friction, and drag before designing, shaping and painting their cars in preparation for the big race. Students used some basic hand tools and a few power tools to create their masterpieces.
A bracket was created and students raced to the last one standing! This week's winners were:
5th Grade
!st Place - Iver Baldwin
2nd Place - Karl Buckwold
3rd Place - Tobiah Musselwhite
6th Grade
1st Place - Nora Greeley
2nd Place - Grace Mlodzik
3rd Place - Miles Boardman
The top 3 from each class will get to race their cars again at the end of the school year to find out who has the fastest car in the school!

Spruce Team News
On Friday, January 10, 2025, Mrs. Westgate's advisory students participated in a Google Meet with Meg Eden, the talented author of the novel Good Different. This inspiring book explores themes of self-acceptance, neurodiversity, and the beauty of embracing differences, and it has resonated deeply with students and educators.
The students wrote a list of questions for Ms. Meg, which she addressed during our time together. She also discussed her journey as an author, the inspiration behind her work, and the importance of understanding and celebrating individuality. She reminded students that writers can begin submitting their work for publication at any age; they do not have to wait to be adults.
This experience helped students understand how their own experiences can lead to writing, either fiction, non-fiction, or a mixture of both genres. Experiences like this foster a deeper connection to literature and an appreciation for neurodiversity. Here's a link to the author's website to learn more.
