Letter from the Principal,

Dear Golden Hills Families,

The first trimester has officially wrapped up! Parent Conference Week is just around the corner — November 16-20th. During this week, school will dismiss early at 1:15 p.m. Teachers will be scheduling conferences with families to discuss each student’s progress and goals.

We had such a great time celebrating Red Ribbon Week! The dress-up days were a huge hit, and we loved seeing everyone’s creativity and participation. A big thank you to all the families who joined us for the Halloween Parade — it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces!

Thank you as well to everyone who attended our STEAM Night! It was an amazing evening of hands-on activities, great conversations, and sharing a meal together as a school community.

Our Golden Hills staff continues to work hard each month to design interventions that meet the unique needs of every student.

  • SOAR Time focuses on Language Arts interventions and extensions. Students are assessed regularly to identify the specific skills they need to strengthen their reading.

  • EAGLE Time (for fourth grade) focuses on Math interventions — reteaching target standards or providing enrichment for students ready for a challenge.

We’re excited to invite families to our Family Picnic Day on November 20th.

  • Fourth grade lunch begins at 11:35 a.m.

  • Fifth grade lunch begins at 12:10 p.m.
Families are welcome to join their students for lunch. Bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy a picnic on the grass! If it rains, we’ll reschedule for a later date. Please remember that visitors must bring their own lunch.

Please be sure to contact me if you have any questions or concerns,

Thank you,

Mrs Napoli

Golden Hills Principal

Wellness Center Message:

In the month of November we will be teaching lessons on the Meta Moment Tool. The Meta Moment Tool is used to help us calm ourselves when we are upset and help us to address the problem in a calm and collected manner. Students will learn how to incorporate their “Best Self”. “Best Self” lessons happened in October. These lessons asked students to focus on how they want to be their ideal self in difficult situations and identify 4 adjectives to describe how they can be their “Best Self”. Students drew self-portraits and wrote their “Best Self” adjectives on them. You can ask your child to share the adjectives they picked to describe their “Best Self”. It also might be helpful to use the Meta Moment Tool at home. This is the Meta Moment tool.

Here are some calming strategies you can practices with your children:

Physical strategies

  • Deep breathing: Practice slow, deep breaths, like counting to four as you inhale and four as you exhale, or using techniques like "square breathing".

  • Progressive muscle relaxation: Tense and then release different muscle groups in the body.

  • Physical activity: Take a break to jump, run, do jumping jacks, or squeeze a stress ball to release pent-up energy.

  • Mindful movement: Engage in gentle stretching, focusing on the breath while doing so.

  • Drink cold water: Sip cold water slowly through a straw, which can help calm the body.

Mental and sensory strategies

  • Guided imagery: Encourage them to close their eyes and imagine a favorite, happy place.

  • Listen to calming music: Play soothing music to help relieve stress and anxiety.

  • Use fidgets and sensory tools: Play with clay, fidget toys, or other sensory materials.

  • Take a quiet break: Find a quiet space with pillows or a tent to have a moment of rest.

Creative and expressive strategies

  • Read or write: Read a book, or write down their feelings in a journal or letter.

  • Draw or create art: Engage in activities like drawing, coloring, or making patterns in sand.

  • Sing or hum: Use humming or singing as a calming, repetitive action.

  • Play with bubbles: Blowing bubbles can be a soothing and focusing activity.

We have been practicing some of these calming activities at school during our Mindful Moment. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out at (530) 532-6000 ext 4601 email rwalker@palermok8.org

Sincerely,
