The School Committee is pleased to announce that they have reached agreement with Ms. Bella Wong to serve as the Superintendent of Schools through June 30, 2030. The unanimous vote, taken at the School Committee’s November 6, 2025 meeting, amends the current 1-year contract with Ms. Wong and adds a new 4-year contract to retain her services as the leader of the school district for a total of five years.

When she was hired in June to serve as Interim Superintendent for the 2025-2026 school year, the School Committee hoped that Ms. Wong would be able to establish a strong foundation based on open dialogue, active collaboration, and a full understanding of the current reality our schools face in terms of fiscal health and the shifting needs of our students. In just a few short months, Superintendent Wong has proven to be a skilled leader of the highest caliber, a collaborative partner, and a determined advocate for the school district. The School Committee is pleased that she will continue to lead the school district, providing stability and support to our students, families, and staff at this important time.

Ms. Wong was chosen to be Interim Superintendent after a robust and thorough search process. The 21-member Interim Superintendent Preliminary Screening Committee - including school leaders, teachers, parents and caregivers, and students - reviewed many applications, interviewed the most promising candidates, and recommended four finalists. The School Committee interviewed those four finalists in public meetings and unanimously selected Ms. Wong for the position.

Members expressed their appreciation to Ms. Wong for her willingness to make a long-term commitment to the school district. School Committee Chair Valerie Frias said, “With so much of import ahead of us — override, budget and program needs, collective bargaining — Bella Wong’s leadership will be paramount. I am so grateful she agreed to stay.”

Superintendent Wong, who attended Runkle School and graduated from Brookline High School, said she is “humbled and honored by the opportunity to lead the district in a more permanent capacity. I extend my appreciation to the School Committee and this community for the support in extending my tenure. Brookline is an extraordinarily stimulating place to grow up, learn, live or work in. I look forward to collaborating with schools and town to continue the work we've started as we look to the future.”
