St Elizabeth's News
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 5 | 6 MARCH 2026
Good afternoon parents and caregivers,
I hope you all had a wonderful extra-long weekend and enjoyed some quality time with family and friends.
Yesterday, our school was a sea of orange as we celebrated Assisi House Day. Assisi House is named after St Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan Order and the patron saint of animals and the natural environment. St Elizabeth was deeply inspired by his teachings, embodying humility in her actions and dedicating her life to the Third Order of St Francis. To honour this legacy, our families generously donated clean blankets, towels, and new animal toys to distribute to local vets and rescue shelters. A big thank you to our Assisi staff for organising the celebrations, including an Old MacDonald Travelling Farm incursion.
Congratulations to Miss Newton for organising a fantastic Interhouse Swimming Carnival last Friday. It was wonderful to see our Year Four to Six students participate with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and a ‘have-a-go’ attitude. I was especially proud of our Year Six students for leading by example with their cheering and encouragement. Congratulations to the Champion and Runner-up swimmers in each year level, to MacKillop for winning the Sportsmanship Trophy, and to Vincent and Servite as the overall carnival winners. Thank you to our dedicated staff for their hard work in making the day a success, and to our parents and families for helping and cheering from the stands. At the beginning of next term, selected students will represent our school at the Interschool Swimming Carnival at HBF Stadium, Mt Claremont. We wish them the best of luck!
On Tuesday, staff participated in a whole-school professional development day focused on Differentiation in the Classroom, led by Kylie Bice from Growing Up Greatness. Throughout the day, staff explored ways to deliberately plan for differentiation across all learning areas, ensuring that teaching and learning experiences are tailored to support, challenge, and engage every student. The professional learning also encouraged staff to reflect on current practices and consider new approaches that help create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. This ongoing focus on differentiation supports our commitment to ensuring that all students feel valued, supported, and able to experience success in their learning.
Have a wonderful weekend!
God bless

We have quite the haul ready to be delivered!
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It is hard to believe that we are already in Week 5 – the term is absolutely flying by! It has been fantastic to see the positive learning and engagement happening across the school, and it is always wonderful to see our students making the most of the many opportunities available to them.
Next week our Year 6 students will be heading to camp at Point Walter. Camp experiences are a wonderful opportunity for students to build independence, strengthen friendships and create lifelong memories. We know the students are very excited for the experience and we are incredibly grateful to Mrs Freeman and the Year 6 team, who cannot wait to share this special time with them.
NAPLAN Testing Begins
Students in Years 3 and 5 will be participating in NAPLAN testing, which will take place across Weeks 6 and 7. The testing consists of four assessments: Numeracy, Conventions of Language, Reading and Writing. Students completed a practice test today to familiarise themselves with the online system so they feel comfortable and prepared when the official testing begins. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is just one snapshot of student learning, and we encourage families to have conversations with their children about simply trying their best without placing too much pressure on themselves. Please see the link at the bottom for further information of NAPLAN!
The timetable is as follows:
📌 Wednesday 11 March – Writing
📌 Thursday 12 March – Reading & Language Conventions
📌 Tuesday 17 March – Numeracy
We understand that NAPLAN can be an unsettling time for some students, and we encourage them to focus on effort and simply doing their best. A supportive conversation at home can make a big difference in helping students approach the tests with a positive mindset.
Our Swimming Carnival last week was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm and school spirit. A massive congratulations goes to Servite and Vincent, who shared first place in what was our first ever tie, and to MacKillop for winning the Sportsmanship Award. Well done to all of our swimmers who represented their houses with pride and gave their best throughout the day. A special thank you must also go to Miss Newton, as events like this take a huge amount of planning and organisation behind the scenes.
We are also excited to announce that we will be launching Wellness Wednesday, beginning 25 March, as part of our Your Move active travel initiative. This program encourages students and families to consider active ways of travelling to school such as walking, riding or scooting where possible. It is a great way to promote healthy habits, independence and environmental awareness. If you are keen to help in any way please see Mr Mastan.
Finally, we recently held our first Student Councillor meeting, and it was fantastic to hear the thoughtful ideas and initiatives our student leaders have already begun to share. Their enthusiasm and commitment to improving our school community is inspiring, and we look forward to seeing these ideas develop over the coming weeks.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
