Thank you to all the families who came out to support our World Treasure Hunt! We loved seeing our community come together and especially enjoyed the delicious dishes shared during our international potluck. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your culture and your family’s favorite recipes, it made the event so meaningful.
March is Women’s History Month, and our scholars will have opportunities throughout the month to learn about influential female leaders and the important contributions women have made throughout our country’s history. We will also celebrate our love of reading during Read Across America Week, reinforcing the importance and joy of literacy.
We have exciting news to share that turf is being installed this week on the 2nd–5th grade playground! This will be a wonderful addition and enhancement to our outdoor space for our scholars to enjoy.
We are also excited for our upcoming Fun Run, where we are raising money to bring Action Based Furniture into all of our classrooms. This innovative furniture supports intentional movement throughout the learning day, helping students stay engaged and focused.
Finally, we are looking forward to the incredible Art Show featuring the beautiful work your scholars have created in Mrs. Powell’s classroom. This is an event you won’t want to miss, come celebrate your children’s creativity and hard work!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

The Importance of School Attendance
Stono Park Elementary School Day- 8:30am - 3:30pm
Students can enter the building starting at 8:05am but are considered tardy after 8:30am. If your student has more than 5 unexcused tardies a conference is held to problem solve getting to school on time. (If bus is tardy then the tardy is excused)
We begin dismissal at 3:25pm. If your student is a car rider please ensure that you are in our car rider line by 3:40pm.
We also offer Kaleidoscope After School Program for our Stono Park Scholars from 3:30pm-6pm daily. Kaleidoscope is open on teacher work days, early release days and 1/2 days of school. You also have the option to register your child for Kaleidoscope and not use them every day if you don't need the service but would still be available to your student on days you might need a late pick up or on those early release/teacher work days!
If your child is absent, please make sure an excuse is sent in within 3 days of the student returning back to school. A student is considered Truant if they have missed 3 consecutive days of school without a doctor's excuse or 5 unexcused absences total. Once a student has 3 unexcused absences then a Truancy Warning Letter is sent home. Once a student has 5 unexcused absences a Truancy Conference has to occur with the caregiver.
A student is chronically absent if he or she misses only two days of school per month (18 days per year). Even one year of chronic absence can cause a child to fall behind academically and decrease a child’s chances of graduating from high school, which can have long-term consequences on their financial independence, physical well-being and mental health.
Feel Free to email pictures of your excuses to stonoparkattendance@charleston.k12.sc.us
March's Character Trait is Creativity.

Nurse's Note
March is here and the pollen and allergy season has already begun. Please start your student's allergy prevention medicine. Most works for 24 hours and prevents the common sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat and eyes and dry cough of seasonal allergies. There are several kinds available for children. Check with your doctor for the best choice. Restock your medicines and first aid kit after a long fall and winter.
Please continue to do a quick assessment of your student in the morning. PLEASE CHECK for fever, severe sore throat, cough and severe stomach upset with vomiting or diarrhea. If any of those are present, please stay home and consider seeing the doctor. Do not return to school until the fever, vomiting or diarrhea has been gone for 24 hours without the need for medicine. We are still seeing high numbers of strep throat, stomach virus, flu and some covid. Children are getting sick on the bus and in the classroom as soon as they arrive. We need your help to decrease the spread of germs.
We are also seeing slips and trips due to untied shoes or improper shoes. Students should be in closed toe shoes that tie or Velcro securely. Students have recess and PE and need to be safe. Avoid sandals which slip and allow ant or mosquito bites, crocs that are wide and do not support the foot and ankle and boots that are not meant for running and playing. If rain boots are needed, consider having shoes in the backpack to change into.
All medicine needs to be brought to the school clinic and signed in by an adult. It should be in a labeled container with a doctor order. Please help us to be safe.
Measles cases are continuing to rise. A few people have asked about the symptoms. They are a red blotchy rash starting at the hairline and neck and spreading down the body, fever., cough, runny nose and red watery eyes. Measles can have serious complications. Please be on the lookout for these symptoms, especially if your child is not vaccinated, and see your doctor.
Let's have a safe and healthy spring!
