Principal's Message
Nov 1, 2026
Marshall Families,
What a Friday! Between the pep rally, Halloween festivities, Senior Night, and a historic Homecoming game, we had plenty to celebrate. Thank you to our students, staff, families, and alumni for showing up with so much Barrister pride! It's been a busy week so it took a little longer to get the newsletter out.
A special thank you to Mr. Soto, Ms. Gonzalez, Mr. Boyd, and Ms. Aung, along with ASB and Stage Crew, who worked from 5 AM to 11 PM setting up and running the activities. Our support personnel also put in long hours to keep the campus safe, organized, and ready for our biggest Homecoming game ever. A day like this takes a lot of work, and I appreciate everyone who helped make it happen.
Our pep rally got the day going with great performances by Mr. Van Wager’s choir and Mr. Ramirez’s modern band. Our cheerleaders brought the energy, and LACER’s drumline and dance team added to the celebration. Seeing our students come together and cheer each other on was a highlight of the day.
That excitement carried into the evening as varsity football defeated Eagle Rock to finish the regular season 10–0. This is the first undefeated regular season in Marshall history! JV also earned a victory, showing the talent coming up for next year. We also celebrated last year’s flag football team and their CIF championship. What a night to be a Barrister!
Thank you to the families who helped make Senior Night special and supported our club fundraisers, team boosters, and PTSA. Thank you also to our alumni for coming back to celebrate with us. A special thank you to Ms. Gisel Miller for arranging a photo booth for our seniors and their parents to capture memories of this special night. The picture here of me with Athletic Director Ms. Giron, Assistant AD Mr. Gutierrez, and AP for Athletics Ms. Martinez was taken at the booth.
Homecoming sold out, and we unfortunately had to turn away a couple hundred people. We appreciate everyone who came out and understand the disappointment of those who could not get in. The turnout shows how much this school means to our community.
You can feel the school spirit growing at Marshall. Thank you for being part of it and for supporting the students and adults who make these moments possible.
Go Barristers! See you at the playoffs.
Yours in service,
Juan Puentes

Pep Rally
Athletics
Our girls volleyball team opened the Division I playoffs with a big upset, defeating No. 3 Sylmar 3–1 on Monday! They followed that with a hard-fought quarterfinal against Lincoln on Thursday, coming up just short in five sets, 3–2. Congratulations to our players and coaches on their playoff run, and thank you to the families who supported them all season.
Girls tennis also earned a playoff victory, defeating Van Nuys 19–10.5 to advance to the Division I quarterfinals. I am proud of how our students continue to represent Marshall on the court!
And what a finish for football! Varsity defeated Eagle Rock 26–7 at Homecoming, securing the Northern League championship and completing the first 10–0 regular season in Marshall history. Congratulations to Coach Razo, his assistant coaches, and our players! JV also brought home a Homecoming victory, and we celebrated last year’s flag football CIF championship team. A great night to be a Barrister!
Athletics Policy Update
Starting Winter Season, all student-athletes must be present in class on game day to be eligible to participate. Class attendance will be verified by classroom teachers using the daily attendance form. Student-athletes are responsible for ensuring that their forms are completed and signed by their teachers and submitted to their coaches on game day. Athlete Attendance Daily forms are available from coaches.
Campus Service Hours
We use campus service hours as an alternative consequence for school infractions, giving students an opportunity to take responsibility, contribute to our school community, and get back on track.
Students must have ZERO outstanding campus service hours to attend the Homecoming games and dance. Please check with your student now so they have time to complete any hours they owe.
Students can check Schoology for hours assigned through the Attendance and Deans’ offices.
Students can complete one hour after school each day, two hours on Tuesdays, or work off hours by attending Saturday School. Please contact Ms. Chavez in the Climate Office to confirm outstanding hours and get the list of available options.
