MMS Updates for 23-24

Good afternoon Families!

The student ascender portals will open for you and your child to view class schedules by 9 am tomorrow (Thursday) morning! If you are having trouble logging in, please review the instructions linked HERE. If you follow the instructions and are still having difficulty please contact our registrar, Casey Kincheloe. Her email address is ckincheloe@aledoisd.org.

Our team has worked diligently to make the best possible schedules for our students, honoring the course requests and elective rankings made in the spring in combination with teacher availability. We have done our best to make sure that every student has received their 1st or 2nd choice electives this year.

If you have a schedule error or your schedule appears to be incomplete, please submit the form linked below. Please remember, an error indicates something such as a double blocked class period, a missing a 3rd-period class, a missing core class (RLA, Math, Science, Social Studies) etc. Teacher requests and changes in elective courses can not be granted. Scheduling errors will be addressed prior to the first day of school, and schedules will be updated accordingly.

Additionally, schedules are subject to change until the first day of school. We encourage families to review schedules by logging into ascender again on Tuesday (15th) evening to ensure their child’s schedule has not changed.

MMS 7th/8th Athletes & Parents--RANK ONE Reminder. Participation and medical/health forms must be complete before the 1st day of school. Medical/health forms should be emailed as a PDF to Baily Barnett at bbarnett@aledoisd.org If participation forms are incomplete and medical/health records are not emailed BEFORE the first day, your student cannot participate or tryout.

If you completed the physical this past May, your child's physical will be good through May of 2024.

For students in grades 6-12, we distribute devices at each campus once school starts. While students in grades 6-12 may bring their own device, we very highly recommend they check out and use a district Chromebook.

IMPORTANT: Students with outstanding device fees WILL NOT be reissued a device until their fees have been paid. Log in to your InTouch account to see if you have any outstanding fees and also to pay those outstanding fees. If your student has an outstanding technology fee, this would have also been communicated with you via a mailed letter at the end of last school year.

Aledo ISD is offering a Device Protection Plan for all 6th-12th graders who check out a district Chromebook. The plan is optional but highly recommended by Aledo ISD.

For just $25, you can get FULL COVERAGE for your child’s district-issued Chromebook. This includes unlimited breakage incidents as well as theft protection coverage. Please note that this is non-refundable and only applies to the current school year.

Please note that if you decline this coverage you will be responsible for the full cost of any repairs, theft or loss of the Chromebook, including:

• Cost for broken screen - $100

• Cost for theft, loss or intentional damage - $250

Registration for bus transportation is completed during the school registration process this year. However, if you missed registering your student or need to update your bus registration, you may still access that through the Ascender Parent Portal at any time. Please remember these important dates:

• The bus transportation registration deadline for students utilizing bus transportation the first week of school (August 16-18) will be on Wednesday, August 9.
• Any registration after August 9 means your student may begin riding the bus on Monday, August 21.
• Registering your student after August 21 requires three business days before they may begin riding the bus

Please download the Versatrans MyStop app to track your students’ bus location and arrival times as well as to receive notifications on delays or other pertinent information.

On Monday, August 14, you will be able to view bus routes/times through Versatrans MyStop. Username is your student ID# and Password is student date of birth XX/XX/XXX.

*NEW*Car Rider drop off in AM will be single lane in front of the school this year. Car Riders will enter through the main entrance this year so please pull all the way forward.

Future MMS 6th grade students are invited to McAnally Middle School's McCat Camp! This is a kid only event filled with fun, games, and a tour of MMS! Parents should plan to drop off students at 4:30pm at the front of the school and pick them up at 6:30pm. Students won't want to miss this important event! As a bonus, students may purchase a treat from Sugar Rush Shaved Ice between 6-6:30pm. Prices start at $4, so if your child wants a treat, please send them with cash.

We are so excited to meet our Bearcat parents and students. Please join us on Monday, August 14th for our McAnally Mingle--Meet the Teacher Night. This is a come and go event from 5:30-7:30. Please expect heavy traffic early in the night. There will also be a mandatory 7th/8th grade athletics meeting in the gym from 6:45-7:30.

Note: 6th Grade Band Orientation will be from 6:45-7:30 as well.

All athletes, boys and girls in 7th/8th grade, and 6th grade pre-athletics must purchase a McAnally MS t-shirt with their first and last name on it. Gray shirts from last year are okay, too!

**Any student who has not completed these steps will not be able to attend try-outs or participate in sports.
