❄️ Elementary School Update: Upcoming Events

Hello FES Families!

Happy New Year! It has been wonderful to see our students’ smiling faces back in the hallways this week. January is always a busy and productive month as we wrap up the first half of the school year and set our goals for the months ahead.

As we settle back into our routines, I want to share some important dates and reminders to help everyone stay on track.

📅 Key Dates for January

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming academic milestones and program changes:

  • January 9th: Little Glads is Closed.

  • January 14th-16th: Half Days of school

  • January 16th: End of the First Semester. Little Glads is Closed.

  • January 23rd: Report Cards will be sent home with students.

These report cards are a great opportunity to celebrate your child’s growth and discuss areas where they can continue to challenge themselves in the second semester.

❄️ Winter Safety & Student Expectations

With the colder weather and icy conditions, we want to ensure every student stays safe and warm.

  • Slippery Roads: Please take extra care during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Parking lots and side streets can be slick, so we appreciate your patience and slow speeds to keep our "walking" students safe.

  • Label Your Gear: Our Lost & Found grows significantly this time of year! Please write your child’s name on the inside tags of all coats, hats, gloves, and boots. This helps us return misplaced items to their rightful owners immediately.

  • Preparedness: We aim to go outside for recess whenever the temperature allows. Please ensure your child comes to school with the necessary gear to stay comfortable during outdoor play.

🌟 Student Focus: Finishing Strong

As we approach the end of the semester on the 16th, we are encouraging all students to stay focused on their "Big Three": Being Respectful, Being Responsible, and Being Safe. Your support at home in reinforcing these expectations makes a world of difference!

Thank you for your continued partnership in making our school a wonderful place to learn. If you have any questions regarding the end-of-semester schedule, please don't hesitate to reach out to the main office.

The "Dress Myself" Independence Challenge! 💪

We are launching a challenge for all families! The greatest gift you can give your child for the winter season is the ability to dress themselves independently!

Please practice the following skills at home:

  1. Putting on all outerwear (coat, snow pants, boots, hat, gloves) without adult assistance.

  2. Zipping their coat all the way up (this takes coordination!).

  3. Putting gloves/mittens on and tucking them under coat sleeves.

Practicing these skills helps students get ready for recess and pack up for home much faster, giving them more time for learning and play.

Drop off and Pick up Drop off and Pick up

Drop Off

If you are parking in the parking lot, please make sure that when you are dropping off your child that you are walking them all the way across the parking lot and to the entrance. This is to keep your child safe from crossing vehicles and ensure that they make it to the school safely.

If you are going to use the drop off line please be sure to stay in your vehicle at all times. If you need to get out of your vehicle for any reason, please pull into a parking space.

Pick Up

When you are coming to pick up your child, be sure to make contact with your child's teacher to ensure that your child is being picked up by the appropriate person. Be careful when exiting the parking lot as well, we have already had a few incidents and would appreciate no more.

Do not block driveways, crosswalks, or fire lanes.

If you’re doing a quick drop-off, pull all the way forward before stopping so we can keep the line moving.

Attendance & Appointments

We know life happens, but consistent attendance is one of the biggest factors in a child’s success at school — both academically and socially.

  • If your child must leave for an appointment, call the office (517-223-6400) ahead of time so we can have them ready.

  • Please limit early pickups and tardies when possible — those minutes add up quickly.
