The Week of August 30, 2027
Lord, Help Me to See
Lord, Help Me to See
What a wonderful first two days of school! It was such a joy and blessing to welcome our students back into the building. Seeing their smiles, hearing their voices and laughter filling the hallways, and watching the excitement of a new school year come to life reminded me of exactly why Saint Peter Cathedral School is such a special place. I am already looking forward to seeing everyone again on Monday as we begin our FIRST full week of school!
Our theme for this school year is “Lord, Help Me to See.” Throughout the year, we will challenge our students and ourselves to look beyond what is immediately in front of us and truly see the people God places in our lives.
As we quickly approach September, our attention turns to the Corporal Work of Mercy, “Feed the Hungry.” While this certainly calls us to care for those who may not have enough to eat, lets think about hunger in an even deeper way.
Every day, we cross paths with people who may be hungry for something we cannot see. A child may be hungry for friendship. Someone may be longing to feel included. A parent may need encouragement. A teacher may need a kind word. A neighbor may simply need someone to listen. We often have no idea what another person is carrying or what his or her heart is longing for.
That is why our theme is so important.
Lord, help us to see.
Help us to slow down enough to notice one another. Help us to see beyond appearances, behaviors, and first impressions. Help us recognize the child sitting alone, the person who needs encouragement, or the friend who simply needs someone to ask, “Are you okay?” Most importantly, help us teach our children that sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is our time, attention, kindness, and love.
This September, I encourage our families to talk about this at home. Ask your children, “Who did you really see today?” or “How did you help fill someone’s need today?” These simple conversations can help our children begin to understand that living our faith is not limited to grand gestures. Very often, it happens in the smallest moments.
May we begin this year with our eyes and hearts open, ready to recognize the needs around us and willing to respond as Christ calls us to do.
Lord, help us to see, not only with our eyes, but with our hearts.
Have a wonderful week ahead!

Your Voice is Needed! Please Read & Take Action! Federal Scholarship Tax Credit
I encourage all of our families to please take a few minutes to read the article below written by Dr. Louis De Angelo, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Wilmington, for the Back-to-School issue of The Dialog regarding the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit.
This has the potential to be a HUGE game changer for our schools and our families. The program could provide additional scholarship opportunities for students through scholarship-granting organizations. However, for Delaware families to benefit, Delaware must elect to participate in the federal program.
This is why we need your voice.
Please read Dr. De Angelo’s message, learn about what this opportunity could mean for our children, and most importantly, take action by making your voice heard with our state leaders. When our families speak together about the importance of educational opportunities and making Catholic education accessible, our voices can make a difference.
For a small school like ours, opportunities that help families afford the education they choose for their children can have an enormous impact, not just today, but for generations to come.
Please read. Please share. Please take action. Our children and our schools need your voice!
