Black History Month
Dear Crestwood Families,
In celebration of Black History Month, every classroom will choose an influential Black American to learn about. They will decorate their door in any way they see fit (either using facts or important symbols that relate to the person they have chosen). The goal is to teach others about their chosen person. These doors will stay up all month. Classes will be able to take time to tour the school and learn from their peers' learning. We are encouraging our staff to choose someone we may not know about already so this is a learning opportunity for all.
Also, we are encouraging staff to read to their class the book Carter Reads the Newspaper. This book is about Carter Woodson who is considered the Father of Black History Month.
A Note from the Health Room
Just a friendly reminder that students are NOT allowed to have cough drops, tylenol, or any form of medicine (whether it's over the counter or prescription) in their backpacks at school. If your student requires medicine during the day, you are allowed to come give it to them in the health room, or it requires a specific form filled out from your doctor. If you know your child will be needing a specific medicine for after surgery, or after a dental apt.-please reach out to the health room for the correct forms needed.
Thank you!
Mrs. Marino
Attendance Matters
As you know, attendance matters! At Crestwood, it’s our goal for every student to arrive at school on time everyday. We do understand students may have appointments and we appreciate you keeping your child home when they are ill. Overall, our school-wide attendance in January increased. That’s great news! Research shows attendance patterns are established as early as pre-school and kindergarten. By high school, attendance rates become a better predictor of graduation than test scores. When a student’s cumulative attendance drops below 90% it is considered chronic by the state. We know missing more than 10% of a school year, even when excused, can affect students' academic and social learning. Thank you in advance for making your child’s attendance a priority
National School Counseling Week!
We <3 Miss Johnson!

Monthly Emergency Drill
February 9th
On Thursday we conducted our monthly emergency drill. This month's drill was: LOCKDOWN
A Lockdown drill is an emergency procedure that keeps students in classrooms with doors locked and prevents people from entering or leaving the building.
During the drill, students and staff practiced:
- Locking interior and exterior doors
- Turning off classroom lights
- Closing blinds and covering windows
- Maintaining silence as much as possible
- Holding "lockdown" status until the "all clear" is announced.
Should you have any questions regarding this drill or any of our safety procedures, please don't hesitate to contact our front office.
