Spring SSIS SEL Screener Scheduled for March 18th- Opt Out Link Below
The Social Skills Improvement System Brief + Mental Health Scales (SSIS SEL screener) is a short screener that is completed by a student (grades 3-12), or their teacher (grades EC-2) or parents. The screener takes between 5 and 8 minutes to complete. The focus of the scales is a student’s social emotional learning (SEL) (including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making) and, for students in grades K-12. emotional behavioral concern (internalizing, externalizing, and stress). The purpose of this online screener is to identify areas of strength and emotional behavioral concerns in students. This will help inform teachers and school leaders in planning Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instructional and programmatic support for students.
Principal Update
Dear NHS Staff, Students and Families,
As we approach the end of 3rd quarter and spring break, I want to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of our NHS community. While there are too many groups, and individuals to call out by name, our students, staff and families have much to celebrate as featured in this version of the Raider Update. Sports teams, academic co-curricular teams, music ensembles, student clubs, and individual students demonstrated excellence and model grit, perseverance and pride in themselves and the NHS community throughout the year. We are excited to host two concerts at NHS next week.
- March 17: All District Band Concert, HS gym, 7:00 p.m
- March 20: All District Orchestra Concert, HS gym, 7:00 p.m
When we return from spring break, we will be sharing key information about MCA testing for 10th and 11th grade, the Advanced Placements testing schedule, the Senior Awards Ceremony, National Honor Society Induction, Junior/Senior Prom, and finally graduation for the class of 2025.
As we look ahead to next year, our district has been engaged in the budget prioritization/reduction process and developing recommendations for how we might reduce $6 million from the budget for fiscal year 2025-26. This is a difficult process that will result in the reduction of staff and services. Dr. Hillmann shared the draft plan with you earlier this week. Click here to view the budget prioritization plan. We will be seeking input from the community April 3, 2025.
- Date: Thursday, April 3, 2025
- Time: 6:00-8:30 pm
- Location: Northfield Middle School Auditorium
- You can view the agenda here
You can also provide feedback to the board via email using the board@northfieldschools.org email address. The board will formally consider the recommended reductions at its April 14 regular meeting and act on the final budget reductions at its April 28 regular meeting.
Sincerely,
Shane Baier
NHS Principal
Prom 2025 is Schedule for April 26, 2025
Trout Classroom Project
Trout have reach about 4 cm in length! Student leaders have emerged to help manage the tank and feeding. Craig Johnson, Biology Teacher, has participated in the Classroom Trout Program for many years. This year, he is collaborating with TJ Austin, Fish, Wildlife and Forestry Teacher. They each have the equipment in their respective classrooms to support the project. Interested students in each classroom will help support this journey. If you have questions, email Craig Johnson at cjohnson@northfieldschools.org or TJ Austin at taustin@northfieldschools.org. We will provide a weekly update on progress between now and the Trout release date.
