Update from Principal Jen Kravitz
April 18, 2025
Dear Mary Hogan Families,
I had to step aside from my role today as 5th grader Annie Livesay was the Principal for the Day. This was a prize she won from the Readathon for being a Hawk Reader. Her name was drawn and she had a full day - from recess duty to gathering student feedback, announcements to a curriculum meeting, Annie rocked it. Here is her update!
💙, Jen
Hi there,
Being Principal for the Day was very fun. I loved being able to do different things around the school I don't usually get to do. I liked going to classrooms and helping out with 1rst grade recess duty. It was fun to see the different sorts of things a principal does.
From, Annie

News from School
A Principal's Take on Exhibition
Principal Livesay is also a 5th grade student working on Exhibition. Here is what she is working on:
For the exhibition I am learning about hunger locally. So the first thing I have to do is do the research and then I put them into different paragraphs. Then I’m coming up with an action which might be having a food drive or just handing out pamphlets to help people think of ways they can help. After that I put all my information on a big trifold and then I present it at exhibition. So ya. Byyyyeeee
All School Meeting
First Graders ran our All School Meeting this past week and knocked it out of the park! They taught us about the cycles they are studying and also about a growth mindset. Check out their slides HERE to see more of what they taught us. They were awesome!
A Student's Call to Action
After the 1st graders were done with their presentation, a 4th grader, Milly, got up to share an experience she had at recess a few weeks ago. She reminded us that while we may think the teams are unfair, they may not really be. We should be open minded and also keep trying because that is how we learn and grow.
Milly didn't know the theme of the 1st graders for the meeting was a growth mindset but her ideas were perfectly connected and really challenged us to have fun and work hard at recess!
Celebrating Support Staff
Our All School Meeting also was a chance to celebrate our AMAZING support staff. HERE is the slide show of all these fabulous supporters who help everything run smoothly every day at Mary Hogan. Without them, we would be lost! Thank you to all of the support staff!
Morning Traffic Flow
Thank you to the folks who wrote in and came on Wednesday to talk about how we might improve our traffic flow, particularly in the morning. If you have more ideas, please email me - jkravitz@acsdvt.org. I will be looking at ideas over break and getting out a communication to you all with what new ideas we are trying!
