Moving Forward

Wednesday, April 29

MovingForwardWednesday, April 29

Dear Teachers,

As we continue during the state-mandated closure, we wanted to take a moment to let you know we are thinking of you and the impact this change has had on you personally and professionally.

Please know we appreciate your patience and support in this situation. We have all experienced many rapid changes and unexpected events in the last two weeks, and it is important to recognize that and do what you can to keep yourself physically and emotionally healthy at this time.

Although our physical campuses remain closed, student instruction will resume from the safety of our homes beginning on Monday, March 30, 2020, in accordance with the Governor's directives and guidelines. We hope the plan below will help explain how we will move forward as an elementary team.

We look forward to working closely with you as we navigate through uncharted territory! Together we will get through this!

What should we do about report cards?

Recently, a group of us worked together to create a report card that we will use at the end of this school year. Our hope is that the guidelines and the Continuous Learning Report Card will truly allow you to focus on what's important right now - meeting your students' needs.

Please click here for more information.

Then, to view an example of the report card, please click on this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or a member of our committee. See document below.

Do I need to worry about "scoring" the students' work during this closure period?

At the elementary level, you will select the most essential standards to address during this last marking period.

See the documents in the Q & A above.

As always, we encourage you to provide feedback when possible.

What if a parent requests a packet of papers for his/her child to complete?

  • Really think how your assignments could easily be completed with either technology or paper/pencil.
  • Offer choices (technology/paper/other items at home) when you send the assignments.
  • If applicable, we encourage you to take photos of any papers you would ask your students to complete so parents can easily see the questions on their phones and have students answer on paper at home.

Communication is a Must

Open lines of communication between regular education teachers and the special education teachers are necessary. Regular ed teachers must keep the special ed teachers they work with regularly in the loop. Be sure to share the weekly plans with them so they can support their students. If wanted, invite them to planning meetings.

What do I do if parents want more work to be assigned?

Be sure to adhere to the schedule that was shared in the Continuous Learning Plan for the required activities you assign. These are your "Must Dos. " For these, you are focused on the essential standards your team has identified.

You may provide a few ideas for extras that are not mandatory. These are your "Can Dos" and may contain extra practice, reading daily, Reflex Math, etc. These should not focus on new learning. And, this is not necessary to do. Please do not go crazy with these. Some parents will think everything is mandatory.
