Tiger Time Advisory Updates Tiger Time Advisory Updates

6th Grade

It is hard to believe that we are heading into December....this school year is flying by! Mondays are still dedicated to Tiger TV episodes, either a full episode or a shorter episode, “This Week at the Creek”. Wednesdays will continue as a W.I.N. day, and teambuilding on Friday. Starting in December, Tuesdays and Thursdays will focus on a variety of SEL lessons. A Digital Citizenship lesson will be featured before heading into winter break as well. Have a wonderful break and we will see you in 2026!

7th Grade

Crazy to believe we are heading into December! 7th Grade advisory lessons have been in full swing now that we have adjusted to our routine! Monday’s will continue to be Tiger Tv and This Week at the Creek to give students information on clubs, athletics, and other schoolwide updates. Wednesday’s will continue to be W.I.N. (What I Need) days, and Friday will be Team Building. The first week of December we will be working on activities dedicated to motivation, exploring habits, and creating goals on Tuesday and Thursday. The following week will continue SEL lessons teaching students how to overcome obstacles and creating plans to navigate them. The last Thursday before students leave for winter break, they will have their third Digital Citizenship lesson that educates students on the meaning of a digital footprint and the impact they can make on their lives. Hoping you all have a great month!

8th Grade

This Month, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Advisory times will remain the same. Mondays will be spent viewing Tiger TV episodes, Wednesdays will be W.I.N. Days, and Fridays will be Teambuilding Days. However, on Tuesdays and Thursdays in December, we will engage in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons on motivation and confidence. We will also have 2 Digital Citizenship lessons with begin responsible on Social Media.

Healthy habits to stay healthy this winter:

  • Prioritize sleep: Aim for 8-10 hours of quality sleep per night to support your immune system.
  • Eat a balanced diet: Focus on fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. Limit sugary drinks and unhealthy foods.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Exercise regularly: Physical activity strengthens your immune system and can help control weight.
  • Manage stress: Practice relaxation techniques like yoga or breathing exercises to reduce stress.
  • Hand Hygiene: wash hands frequently and before eating.

Vision and hearing screenings-

All students new to the district will get both screenings; 8th graders will get the vision screening only. Parents have a right to opt out of the screenings by contacting the building nurse at tbush@fsd157c.org. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report form indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months.

Dental Exams: We are still in need of IL Dentals Forms for about half the 6th graders. Please get these completed and turned in soon.

"There’s nothing better than curling up with a good book and sitting in front of the fire on winter evenings." Leo Sayer

To celebrate fall and winter, we have drenched our library in color with artwork made by our Adaptive Fine Arts class. Be sure to tell your students to stop by the library to check out the displays.

The last two years we have moved the FSP Book Fair into the library. This always brings lots of excitement and energy into the space. I want to send a shout out to all the students and families that made this Fall’s Book Fair the most successful Hickory Creek has ever had! Thank you!

We are smack in the middle of our Caudill book challenge. The upcoming school breaks are perfect times to catch up on reading. All 20 titles can be found on the Destiny Discover page. Don’t forget an entry must be submitted for each book read. The link to do this can be found on all ELA teacher’s TEAMS pages.

Stay warm!

Thoughts—Feelings--Behaviors

All day, every day, different things happen. We have thoughts and feelings about what’s happening. We also have different feelings in our bodies and want to do different things based on what is happening. Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors all affect each other.

It is helpful to notice what your thoughts are, what your feelings are, and what your behaviors are. You can’t control the things that happen, but you CAN control the ways that you think about them and the things that you do. This gives you the power to deal with whatever feelings and experiences come your way!

Example: Your first time on a diving board:

Feeling: Nervous. Thoughts: “I can’t do this! I am going to fall!”. Behavior/feeling in your body: racing heart, fast breathing, tight shoulders, you get off the diving board.

Here is what happens when you CHANGE that automatic thought:

Feeling: Nervous. Thought: “I can do this! I will be careful, there are lifeguards here for safety. I GOT THIS!”. Behavior/feeling in your body: deep breaths, relax your shoulders, you jump off the diving board

We continue to have rolling admission for new registrants with a current sports physical on the SNAP manage website for anyone interested.

Intramural Dance

  • Crazy to believe we are ending our season in just a couple of weeks! The dancers have been hard at working crushing their choreography routines and working together to make sure everyone is on the same page. We’ve had two amazing volunteers who have been the choreographers as well as assisting dancers who want to learn more about technique, style, and overall form. We are planning to have our end of season party on December 11th. We will also have our showcase on December 11th at 5:30. Bring your family, friends, or anyone who supports your child! They have worked so hard on their routines, and we would love to fill the gym so that they get the recognition they deserve. We hope to see you there!

Cheerleading

  • Our cheerleaders have been working incredibly hard this season! They’ve been busy learning new sideline cheers, bringing energy and spirit to every basketball game, and perfecting their routines. Their dedication is truly paying off. Our routine division team will kick off the competition season at the Bradley Bourbonnais HS competition next month. Our game day team will start to compete in January at Old Quarry Middle School. We’re so proud of the progress they’ve made so far!

6th Girls Basketball

  • The 6th grade girl’s team have had a successful November as they have won 4 out of their last 7 games. The girls have been working hard on their fundamentals and have been coming together as a team. The improvement has been on display all season as the girls. The girls are all smiles and having a great time representing Hickory Creek. The ladies will be playing in the DPVC Tournament coming up on November 20th. Go Tigers

7th Girls Basketball

  • The 7th grade girl's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a record of 13 wins and 6 losses and headed into the playoffs looking strong. The girls have been working hard and growing well as a team. There has been amazing improvement across the board, and we are excited for the future of this team!

8th Girls Basketball

  • Congratulations to our girls on an outstanding season, finishing with an impressive 15–4 record! As we head into regionals on Monday, December 1st at Mokena Junior High, we could not be prouder of their hard work, growth, and teamwork. We compete in a tough conference, but our girls have consistently proven what they are capable of. Now, we shift our focus to the postseason, committed to our shared goal of moving forward, one win at a time. Let’s keep the momentum going!

6th Boys Basketball

  • Our 6th grade boys' basketball team continues to make great progress this season. The players are working hard in practice and growing stronger as a team each week. They currently hold a 2–2 record. We’re looking forward to the DPVC tournament in January.

Intramural Yoga

  • As our yoga intramurals season comes to a close, we’re celebrating how far the girls have come in flexibility, mental focus, and relaxation. Each week they stretched a little farther, deepened their concentration, and learned techniques to calm and center themselves. Great work to everyone for showing teamwork, progress, and a positive attitude throughout the season!

Tiger TV

  • Tiger TV has recorded 5 full episodes and met with all the production teams at least once. You can view our episodes on the school web page.

ESports

  • ESports is going to run 2 intramural periods, one in December which is already full and another one in May which will be opened up again in the spring. We are excited to welcome 24 gamers to play Mario Kart and super smash bros on the Nintendo Switch platform which mirrors the high school eSports competition season. The sponsors have been working hard on bringing in their own resources and materials in order for the students to play at HCMS and are looking forward to new opportunities to grow the club to fit the interest and needs of the HCMS community.

Wrestling

  • Wrestling registration is now open. This team is open to all students grades 6 through 8. Please note practices are typically held after 4pm so students need to go home and secure transportation to and from the building. Please reach out to Mr. Adamo with questions.

Art Club

  • Artists in Art Club finished making and glazing ceramic pumpkins just in time for Thanksgiving. Next, we will move on to painting. First, we will experiment with color mixing and technique and then paint spacers for the HCMS Library.
