School Leadership Updates
We welcome the following new administrators to the BPS team this year:
Erica Fontaine will serve as Interim Assistant Principal for the Davis School alongside Interim Principal Jessica Colby, who was appointed at the end of last school year.
Andrea Edmunds will step into the re-constituted Assistant Director for Special Education role.
Amy Gagnon will replace Andrea as the special education program administrator for JGMS.
Jaime Doucette will step into the newly formalized preschool program administrator role.
Hilary Nichols is our new English Learner Program Director.
Maurin O’Grady started as a new Assistant Principal at BHS, alongside JoAnn Campbell, who will serve as interim Assistant Principal.
In addition, due to the transition of Assistant Superintendent Tricia Clifford over the summer, I have established an interim districtwide instructional leadership structure while considering the options for the future. In particular:
Marianne Vines will serve in an interim director of student services role which includes leadership for special education, English learner education, and counseling in addition to other districtwide responsibilities related to student supports.
Rob Ackerman and Heather Galante will lead and support instructional rounds and planning for professional development. Rob will provide primary support for the implementation of the new literacy curriculum and Heather will support our ongoing data inquiry work to inform instructional practices.
- Jon Hartunian and Nick Bacigalupi will support the district’s shift to restorative practices and the development of consistent district practices regarding student safety and discipline.
I anticipate that searches to fill permanent positions will begin in the winter, with more information forthcoming about stakeholder engagement and participation in these processes.
Riding the school bus is a great benefit to families and directly results in less traffic and congestion on our roads and school campuses during school arrival and dismissal times. If you intend to utilize this service, please review the updated Bus Transportation Guidelines and please visit the Bedford Public Schools Transportation webpage for current information. Routes and bus stops will be posted here as soon as they are available, and by Thursday 8/29/24. Bus stop policies are posted, as well as contact information for questions or concerns. Families whose students receive specialized transportation should have received direct communication regarding the specifics. If you have any questions regarding specialized transportation, please reach out to Debbie Barnes at deborah_barnes@bedfordps.org.
Important Detour Note for Lane Families: There is road work that is being done on Sweetwater Avenue that will require detours onto Wildwood and Hayden for buses and cars. More information will be shared directly with Lane families. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone's cooperation.
Bedford's Electric Vehicle Charging Policy 2024-2025
As we prepare for the 2024-2025 school year, we wanted to remind everyone of a change in the Town of Bedford's electric vehicle charging policy. Starting July 1st, by direction of Town Manager's office, the rate for EV charging at town and school units increased to $0.40/kWh. Please remember to share the plugging opportunity with others and move your car when fully charged, or at 4 hr max, whichever comes first. The "Waitlist" feature can be used to alert you to a free unit (directions attached). As is general EV etiquette, please do not unplug another's vehicle without explicit permission. Should you wish to purchase a home charging unit for faster at home charging, information for various discounts are available by emailing facilities@bedfordps.org. (Note: Bedford does not endorse any one vendor specifically.)
The Bedford Education Foundation announces funding of nine grants across all four schools in Bedford. The BEF’s Summer 2024 grant cycle total is $7,800. To date, the BEF has funded more than $330,000 towards creative and innovative projects in the Bedford Public Schools. Please click here to read the full article.
