MTSS Lead Weekly Updates
Week of September 29
Pearson aimswebPlus
Assessment Matrix
Pearson published the Assessment Matrix document to support with the progression of measures but also so educators will know which grade levels available. A copy is available in the Pearson aimswebPlus folder, but you can also search for it in the platform under How Can We Help?.
2 Schedules
There should be two progress monitoring schedules for each student. One schedule is on the student's enrolled grade level while the other schedule is the student's instructional level. Please "EXPIRE" schedules and do not delete them as students progress to new skills and levels.
TNPulse
User Profiles
While we had hoped to have removed all of the duplicate user profiles over the summer, we have come across some remaining duplicates. If you notice that you can log in both through Clever and also through TDOE SSO, please send an email to Emily Vuoso with the names of the duplicates. I will note that this typically only impacts MTSS Leads and/or administrators.
I am continuing to add users manually.
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month
Wear Red on October 8
Reclaiming the Narrative for Dyslexia Awareness Month: Red is historically used to highlight mistakes, particularly with a teacher's red pen. The Go Red for Dyslexia campaign aims to change this association, transforming red from a mark of failure into a symbol of pride and empowerment for people with dyslexia.
Let's GO RED for DYSLEXIA on October 8th!
Reading Horizons Dyslexia Specific Intervention
Training
One person, identified by the principal, will engage in training with the vendor as outlined below. Emails have been sent to the identified participant. Participants will receive the materials during training and should take them back to the school following training. Digital materials are available through Clever under Reading Horizons Discovery K-3 and Reading Horizons Elevate 4-12. During the training, participants will review the digital and print materials and gain strategies for daily lessons.
Which sessions should CSI/iZone attend?
CSI/iZone schools should attend with their geographical region for the purpose of leveraging feeder patterns for ongoing supports from the trainer. If you are unsure of your geographical region, please email RTI2@scsk12.org for confirmation.
Should K-8 schools attend a 6-12 Elevate session too?
Elementary and K-8 schools will need to attend one Reading Horizons Discovery session and one Reading Horizons Elevate session.
DYS Coding and ILP-Ds
DYS 02 and 03 Coding must be entered into PowerSchool. This is an entirely separate action from ILP-Ds entered into TNPulse. Please see below for information regarding dates for DYS Coding and ILP-Ds.
Record of Decision - This is the date the data based decision making team determined they would move forward. Most schools use the data team meeting date.
Parent Notification - This date is automatic upon the time of entry.
Parent Decision - The date the parent signed/returned.
ILP-D Plans are good for one calendar year for the start to end dates.
DYS01-discontinued; Do not enter DYS01 coding.
DYS02-students who required additional screening
DYS03-students eligible for dyslexia specific intervention (regardless of ILPD status)
For these dates reference the date of the screening and end of the school year for students 5/21/26.
RTI2A+RTI2B
Data-Based Decision Making Team
Please be reminded that each school should have a data-based decision making team who represent both RTI2A and RTI2B to fully support student needs. Teams are expected to meet at least monthly using an agenda while maintaining minutes. The agenda and minutes should be uploaded to the school folder in the On Target for Success SharePoint.
RTI2B School Plan
This is a reminder to work with your principal to submit your school RTI2B Plan. Questions about the RTI2B Plan can be sent to Lori Phillips.
De-escalating Challenging Behavior
Sometimes challenging student behaviors can put a halt to the best laid lesson plans. TN Tiered Support Center has a one hour, asynchronous module available if you are looking on how to de-escalate challenging behaviors.
Learning Objectives
Participants who complete this module will be able to:
Describe the conflict cycle and the phases of escalation.
Identify appropriate de-escalation strategies for each phase of the escalation cycle.
Recognize when students may need additional or advanced support.
Explain the importance of staff support and determine appropriate training and self-care practices.
🗓 Coming Up!
October New MTSS Lead Huddles
New Leads 0-3 Years can join an October Huddle to gain knowledge and talk about the topics of intervention and progress monitoring. Huddles are 30 minutes and FAQ will be sent to participants following the conclusion of all four sessions.
💡 Reminders
1. Update Tier 2/3 TNPulse Plans
Please remember that all student Tier 2/3 plans in TNPulse should be updated once per month.
2. Maintain School Folder in On Target for Success SharePoint
MTSS Leads should maintain the school folder at least once per month. All folders should have items in them at this time in the school year. Please expect reminder emails from Reese if you have empty folders after October 1.
