Volunteers Needed!

We are in charge of the registration table and helping people navigate to the different stations throughout the bike rodeo.
Livestock Quality Assurance Training
Livestock Quality Assurance Training (LQA) will be held in person this year in Barnesville in collaboration with Clay and Wilkin County. We are looking at having the training sometime towards the end of March. If you are an adult 4-H volunteer and would like to help teach LQA please email Elliott at lawre735@umn.edu.
LQA training must be taken by youth in grades 6 and up exhibiting 4-H livestock to be eligible for the Minnesota State Fair. In-person LQA&E certification is good for three fair seasons, so training must be taken every three years. This year's training is on Saturday, May 3, 2025. This free training will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Old City Hall, 101 Front St S, Barnesville, MN. Registration closes April 30, 2025. Visit https://z.umn.edu/LQAETrainingBeckerClayWilkin for more information.
Spring Livestock Weigh-In
If you are showing market goat, sheep, or swine at the county fair, please bring your animals to this weigh in.
Why participate?
- Your market animal’s Rate of Gain needs to be determined for the Livestock Auction Record
- Rate of Gain recognition and awards will be given at the fair
- Proper identification of your market animal is important
Why is rate of gain important?
- Faster growth means that the animal achieves market weight in the shortest amount of time using the least amount of feed so that the highest price can be received. In most livestock species, the most cost-efficient feed conversion and the highest average daily gain are the primary factors determining efficiency of production.
When? Saturday, May 17th from 10:00am-12:00pm
Where? Becker County Fairgrounds- 1310 Rossman Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501
