Title: Behavior Coach Role
When monitoring implementation of a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), consider the following:

  • Create a timeline for meeting with the teaching team and caregivers

  • Engage in data based decision making (review, revise, plan)

  • Review progress towards decreases in challenging behavior and increases in desirable behavior

  • Have a process available to revise the BIP as needed.

This month let’s explore how to support staff in implementing Teach strategies. Teach strategies include step-by-step instructions for teaching the child a more useful way to communicate their wants and needs. These strategies help the child learn that the new replacement skill will more reliably get them what they want rather than engaging in challenging behavior. Vanderbilt University - Barton Labs have created this helpful resource around Teaching Replacement Skills. They also created ready-made infographics of teachable replacement strategies for you to consider when working with teaching teams.
Title: Tips for Using Data
