Thanksgiving and More Thanksgiving and More

Thanksgiving Food Drive

The student leadership at the high school has organized a food drive to benefit St. Peter's Pantry. We are grateful for the many donations that will go to those in need this season. Through this initiative, our students are demonstrating their commitment to community engagement and embodying the character virtue of Citizenship.

Our Middle School students will continue to college non-perishable goods and winter coats through December 5. Please send donations to school and/or stop by the Middle School office. Thank you!

Snow Days and Weather Delays...

Winter Weather is Coming….

Despite the unseasonably warm weather this last few months, we know it will eventually feel like winter in New England. We anticipate the inevitable situations when weather or other circumstances prevent us from opening school or operating buses safely. In those cases, a delay and/or no school could be deemed necessary.

Please note: Abby Kelley does not automatically follow local public school districts decisions. We make our own call based on the information we have, our bus routes, and our student and staff safety.

  • A delay to starting school (could be 1 or 2 hours) in the morning is usually called when conditions are scheduled to improve quickly or if the road crews need additional time to salt, sand, plow.

  • An unscheduled early release day if the weather is going to deteriorate in the afternoon before buses are able to drop off students safely.

  • No School days will be days off due to extreme or unsafe weather conditions and/or other factors that impact the safety of staff and students.

*A delay or an early release will count toward our required 180 school days. Five (5) no school/snow days are built into our ‘24-25 academic calendar which could make the last day of school in June variable.

The decision to delay or not open school will be made as early as possible if we have definitive information from forecasters. Sometimes we can make the call as early as the night before to help you prepare. Other times, we can't make the decisions until early in the morning. In that case, it will be shared typically between 5:00-5:30 a.m. We will use all available methods of sharing these notifications, including:

  • Text messages (please opt into new message alert by texting YES to 67587

  • Phone calls

  • Emails

  • Social Media: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

  • AKF website

  • Local media outlets; Channels 4, 5, 7, NECN and Fox25

Elementary School Curriculum Night

The Elementary School recently hosted a highly successful Curriculum Night, which saw strong participation from our families. The event featured a variety of games and interactive learning manipulatives designed to engage students. The accompanying photograph illustrates a student reading with the aid of a guided light, showcasing an innovative learning tool. Overall, feedback indicates that the event provided an enjoyable experience for both students and their families.

And Off They Went - Nature's Classroom

We are so happy that our 6th Grade students spent four days learning about natural sciences at Nature's Classroom. Their spirits were not dampened by the rain, and they learned some very interesting climate lessons. This is an annual trip for students who are in the 6th grade; look for more information in the Spring for next year's incoming class.

Thank you to the teachers and staff who chaperoned the trip!
