Adventure Family Newsletter: November 7
Dear Adventure Families,
The last couple weeks of October were very busy, so our school community is enjoying the three weeks of November with quieter, calmer days. With the recent time change, we've noticed a dip in our attendance and on-time arrival to school. Please remember that the school day begins at 8:00. At this point in the school year, students with 5 or more absences are at risk for truancy according to Colorado state law, so let's stay diligent in prioritizing attending school each and every day! Every day of learning counts. When students are present, they build stronger skills, friendships, and confidence. Thank you for your child be at school on time and every day--together, we can reach our attendance goals!
Our school is also hosting a few programs in November and December to help student and families with food, dental care, eye glasses, and warm coats. Next week, our school's Thanksgiving food drive will begin. We'll collect food items from November 10- 19. Adventure's Student Council and VIVA are collaborating to sponsor this activity to support families in our community who benefit from this sort of assistance. Also, see below for additional resources for those impacted by the delayed SNAP benefits.
Go Marmots!
Saludos,
Sarah and Marisa

Field Trip Update
Dual Language Updates
This year, Adventure Elementary teachers have been hard at work participating in professional development centered around an explicit language instruction approach called Constructing Meaning. Constructing Meaning is explicit language instruction to support grade-level content learning in English. Adventure is also using the same strategies to support our Spanish language learners. Through Constructing Meaning, teachers analyze the language demands of a lesson in order to best support students with their language learning and content knowledge learning. This analysis supports our Dual Language Enrichment Program goals of high linguistic achievement and high academic achievement. Constructing Meaning can be used throughout the day in all content areas. So far, Adventure teachers have focused on literacy and science lessons with a plan to begin using the strategies in math. Expect to hear more about our work with Constructing Meaning soon!

We’re excited to let you know that Chopper Topper, a mobile dental sealant program, will be visiting our school soon! Chopper Topper is staffed by licensed dental hygienists who provide FREE dental screenings and preventive treatments, including sealants and fluoride applications, to help protect your child’s adult molars from future cavities. These procedures are quick, painless, and performed during the school day.
In addition to applying sealants and fluoride, the hygienists will check for any signs of tooth decay or other concerns and will notify you if any follow-up care is needed.
If you would like your child to participate, please scan the QR code or copy and paste the link (Spanish)to complete the consent form.
Each participating student will go home with a new toothbrush, two-minute timer, flossers, and—most importantly—a healthy smile! Thank you for helping us promote good dental health at school!

Staff Spotlight
Get to know Ms. Carey!
Ms. Carey is Adventure's Special Education Generalist teacher. She is in her sixth year as a member of the Adventure staff. Ms. Carey supports Adventure students who have Individualized Education Plans, providing push-in support inside general education classrooms for identified students or by seeing small groups of identified students in her own classroom. "A passion of mine in teaching is working with students on self-determination skills - teaching students about metacognition, self-advocacy skills, etc. I believe these skills can last a lifetime!"
Ms. Carey is originally from San Francisco, CA. She completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology and Education before earning a Masters of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education. Ms. Carey started her teaching career as a high school English teacher in Bulgaria. To date she has lived in 3 states and 3 countries.
