A Note From Mrs. Gaudette

Fall is my favorite. I love that the weather cools down but it's not freezing yet. I have particularly enjoyed the past 2 fall seasons, as I've had the pleasure of watching the colors change...something that wasn't as pronounced in California. But the best thing about fall is that it marks a new school year...every year! That fresh start is energizing and the opportunity to meet new families and see how children grew over the summer excites me. It is my hope that the excitement has reached your family as well.

In this SMORE, there will be a lot of logistics and guidelines that we'd like to pass on so that we can partner in ways that put student safety and well-being first. (It's a lot to digest in the beginning!) We work hard to put plans in place that make sense for working with large groups of children while being efficient with our time. We also try our best make our plans as family-friendly as possible. It really does take a village and if we all cooperate, we can look out for one another and grow together.

...adventure awaits!

Kindly,

Amy Gaudette

First Day Arrival and Dismissal Procedures- First and Second Grades 9/2, Kindergarten 9/3

Staff have carefully planned procedures for arrival and dismissal, prioritizing the safety of all students. When the adults follow the procedures in place, not only are you modeling for your children that rules are there for everyone, you are ensuring the safety of our community.

Arrival procedures begin at 9:10. Please do not drop students before 9:10, as there is no supervision before then.

On 9/3, 1st and 2nd grade teachers will be in front of the school with signs indicating their names.

On 9/4, kindergarten teachers will be in the gym. Education Support Professionals (ESPs) will gather groups of kindergarten students as they arrive and escort them to the gym to meet their teachers. 1st and 2nd grade students will go directly to their classrooms.

Bus Riders

An adult will meet the bus and will release students to line up with their class. Please do not send your child on the bus then come meet them at the school. We don't have the parking to accommodate families doing this. Please say goodbye at the bus stop.

Parents may not park and walk in. For the safety of all students, if you drive in, you must come through the valet, saying goodbye to students in the car.

Car Riders

Cars will queue through the middle of the parking lot. PLEASE DO NOT PULL IN BEHIND BUSES. As cars pull through, staff will assist in getting students out of cars and safely to the front of the building, where they will line up with their classes.

Walkers

Again, please do not park and walk up with your child. On the first day, walk students to line and say goodbye quickly, please. It will be crowded in the front of the school and we'd like to save room for students.

Again, staff discussed the procedures above with student safety as a priority.

After the first day of school, first and second grade students will enter through the front door at 9:10 and go directly to their classrooms.

For Dismissal, car riders will be called into the valet lineup as parents come through. Please place the placard below in the driver's side window of your car. Some parents attach it to their visor then flip the visor down. This helps us call for students faster and keep the valet line moving as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience as we learn the vehicles and parents of our newest students.

Walkers will be dismissed out the cafeteria door, closest to the playground.

ACTION NEEDED! Please complete by Friday, 29 August

Please complete the survey below about how your child will be picked up from school. Complete one for every Osgood student you have. You may have filled one out for your child's teacher, so I apologize for any redundancy. This will be for our master list for the office.

Students will be released according to this plan.

We ask that families have a plan that remains consistent throughout the year. In order to dismiss students safely, we have an elaborate plan that includes a great deal of documentation (attendance lists, etc.). When one change is made, it triggers several points of communication and documentation. As you can imagine, that is compounded by many families making changes and it makes it difficult for our staff to keep accurate records in the office and the classroom.

**Students are housed in different areas within the building for dismissal, so it is important to be accurate and consistent to prevent any confusion.**

It is important to remember that a "walker" is someone who will be walking home at the end of the day with their grown-up and a student with "car pick-up" is getting picked up by their grown-up in the car line. For the safety of our students, there will be no parking to pick up students as walkers, as we have an active car pick-up line in the parking lot.

Kindergarten Orientation

  • Orientation will be held on Tuesday, 2 September, which is also the first day of school for 1st and 2nd grade students.
  • Children attend with parent(s).
  • Please park in the front lot. However, parking gets tight…we would love for you to walk or ride over if you can (we have bike racks to the right of the building) and enter with your child at the front door.

Kindergarten Zoom

You will be receiving a copy of The Night Before Kindergarten on 2 September. Mrs. Gaudette will be doing a reading of The Night Before Kindergarten on a Zoom call on that evening at 6:30pm. Below is the Zoom link:

School Council Members Needed

Are you looking for a way you can be involved in our school? We are looking to elect 3 new Osgood School Council parent representatives! The School Council meets monthly to advise the principal on the following:

  • adopting educational goals for the school that are nested in the District Strategic Plan by formulating a School improvement Plan
  • Identifying students' educational needs
  • reviewing the school budget

For more information on MA School Councils Click Here.

Members of the Council include the principal, staff members, elected parents, and selected community members.

This is a two year commitment and a parent must have a child attending Osgood during their term. (If your child will only be here one year, you will serve a one year term...so second grade parents may run!)

Once the group is formed, we will determine the best time to meet each month.

Families will vote for your representatives at Open House on 11 September.

If you are interested in running to be a School Council member for 2025-26 and 2026-27, please email a short bio and photo to the Osgood PSO Liaisons, Hillary Mone and Christina Norton at osgood@cohassetpso.org and copy Mrs. Gaudette at agaudette@cohassetk12.org.

All submissions must be received no later than Friday, 5 September, 2025, so that we may share information with families and prepare ballots in time for Open House.

School Supplies- It's not too late to order! It's ok if they aren't here on the first day.

It is my understanding that, at least in recent years, Cohasset Public Schools has covered the cost of all school supplies for Osgood students. This school year, we are doing everything we can to be conservative with our budget. To that end, we are requesting that families provide some of the school supplies for 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, if it is possible. (Kindergarten supplies will be purchased with kindergarten tuition funds.) This is typical practice in many school districts. Please note, we will be sure every child has the supplies they need for school, regardless of whether your family is able to purchase them.

Attached are supply lists provided by grade level teacher teams. You can purchase some or all of them on your own or you can order them from School Toolbox. Ordering from School Toolbox will likely cost a bit more...you will be paying for the convenience of home delivery as well as a small donation to the PSO.

See below from the PSO for information about School Toolbox:

There is still plenty of summer left, but in case you are thinking about back to school, the PSO has you covered! All the school supplies needed for Osgood students can be purchased and sent directly to your home through School Tool Box! Order soon to get your supplies in time for the first day of school!

The Osgood teachers worked together to create recommended supply lists customized by grade level. To order, please go to the link below, or scan the QR code in the attached flyer! You can add or subtract supplies as needed.

Please note: you can also use the attached supply lists as shopping lists if you prefer to do your own shopping! And importantly, please know that while providing supplies is greatly appreciated, the school will ensure that all students have what they need regardless of whether they contribute supplies.

Many thanks & happy shopping!!

What Expertise Can YOU Offer Our Students?

Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.

There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.

If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.

Onward and Upward,

Your School Committee
